What is an entry level web developer?

Entry level web developers are professionals who are just starting their careers in building, maintaining, and updating websites or web applications. They typically work with front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and may also have some experience with back-end technologies or frameworks. These developers often work under the supervision of more experienced developers and are responsible for implementing basic features, fixing bugs, and learning industry best practices. Entry level web developers play an important role in assisting teams with building functional, user-friendly web solutions.

What does an entry-level web developer do?

An entry-level web developer collaborates with a team of junior, mid-level, and senior web developers to code a computer program or web application. You may spend some time shadowing veteran developers until you are comfortable with your company's code base and workflow. As an entry-level developer, your duties include running tests and debugging applications, submitting pull requests with ideas of different approaches to a problem, and pairing programming to develop software solutions to meet business needs. As you gain the skills and knowledge base to understand the company’s systems, you can take on additional responsibilities and more complex assignments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level web developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Web Developer, you need a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp certification. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, popular frameworks such as React or Angular, and basic knowledge of web development tools are typically required. Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help you collaborate effectively and learn quickly in dynamic environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for building functional, responsive websites and adapting to evolving project requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level web developers in their first few months on the job?

Entry level web developers often face challenges such as adapting to new codebases, learning company-specific workflows, and collaborating effectively with more experienced team members. It can be overwhelming to quickly pick up new frameworks or tools that the team uses, especially if they differ from what was taught in school or previous internships. Regular communication with mentors and proactive participation in code reviews can help ease the transition and accelerate skill development.

Can I be an entry level web developer with no experience?

Entry level web developer positions often do not require extensive professional experience and may accept candidates with basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript gained through self-study, courses, or personal projects. Demonstrating a portfolio of work and familiarity with development tools can improve chances of hiring despite limited formal experience.

Is an entry level web developer still in demand?

Entry level web developers are in consistent demand due to ongoing growth in online services and digital presence. Skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Angular increase employability, and knowledge of responsive design and version control tools such as Git are valuable assets in the job market.

Job description

Position Overview

Are you an aspiring tech innovator who loves using AI, building websites, and creating clever automations to solve real-world problems? Franklin Dental Care and Dentures in Franklin, Ohio 45005 is seeking a forward-thinking IT & Automation Intern to help modernize our office operations.

This is a Temp-to-Hire position. We aren't just looking for temporary tech support—we want an innovative problem-solver to build systems that eliminate mundane tasks for our clinical and administrative departments. You will start at $11.00/hour, with structured performance and compensation re-evaluations at your 30, 60, and 90-day milestones. If you demonstrate strong technical skills, a passion for automation, and a great work ethic, this internship is designed to transition into a permanent, full-time role.

What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities)
  • AI & Automation Development: Leverage Artificial Intelligence tools and low-code/no-code platforms (e.g., Zapier, Make, Power Automate, or custom scripts) to automate repetitive data entry, scheduling, and administrative tasks for various departments.

  • Web Development & Maintenance: Assist in creating, updating, and optimizing websites and landing pages for the dental practice and related projects to improve user experience and lead generation.

  • Process Streamlining: Shadow different departments (front desk, billing, clinical) to identify manual, "mundane" bottlenecks and engineer tech solutions to speed up their workflows.

  • Core IT Support: Provide foundational technical support for the office, including troubleshooting hardware (PCs, tablets), local network connectivity, and dental software issues.

  • Data & Compliance Integration: Ensure all automated workflows and web forms handle data securely and align with healthcare privacy standards (HIPAA).

Your 30-60-90 Day Roadmap & Evaluation

We believe in setting clear expectations and rewarding innovation. Your progress will be evaluated on the following schedule, with opportunities for rate adjustments based on performance:

  • Day 30 (Audit & Learn): System Familiarization. You will learn our existing dental software, manage basic day-to-day IT support requests, and shadow office staff to map out which repetitive tasks are ripe for AI and automation.

  • Day 60 (Build & Automate): Implementation. You will deploy your first set of workflow automations, begin assisting with website updates/creation, and independently handle standard office IT troubleshooting.

  • Day 90 (Optimize & Transition): Full Integration. You will confidently manage our automation pipelines, oversee website performance, and present measurable ways your tech solutions saved the team time. At this milestone, a final evaluation will be conducted to discuss your transition into a permanent, full-time position.

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree/certification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a highly technical self-taught background.

  • Experience or strong familiarity with AI tools (ChatGPT APIs, Claude, etc.) and workflow automation platforms.

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of web development (HTML/CSS, WordPress, Webflow, or similar site builders).

  • Solid foundational knowledge of computer hardware, Windows OS, and basic networking.

  • A proactive, "efficiency-first" mindset—you see a boring, repetitive task and immediately think about how to write a script or build a tool to fix it.

Why Join the Franklin Dental Team?
  • A Fast-Track Career Path: Skip the entry-level helpdesk grind. Prove your worth by making our business smarter, and secure a permanent full-time role right here in Franklin.

  • Cutting-Edge Experience: Unlike typical IT internships that just swap out monitors, you will actively build AI and automation systems that look incredible on a resume.

  • Direct Impact: You will see the immediate results of your work as you make daily life easier and more efficient for our hard-working dental team.
