Work Schedule: days and times are flexible, but work time should be scheduled in 3-4 hour blocks. The ideal candidate will be available during the summer. Budget permitting, from mid-May to mid-August there is the potential to work up to 20 hours/week if taking classes, and up to 40 hours/week if not taking classes.

Position Title: Baylor University Press Production Assistant
Number of positions available: 1

Position Description: Baylor University Press serves the academic community by publishing scholarly books and textbooks with a connection to the field of religion. The Press' website can be found at www.baylorpress.com. The Baylor University Press production department is the "nuts and bolts" team at the press that works on book files throughout the production process (copyediting, design/layout, proofreading, ebook conversion). The Production Assistant will work alongside BUP's full-time production staff to assist with general production tasks as needed, perform pre-press quality checks, and format and proofread indexes. The press is a warm and welcoming community committed to your professional development and success. A number of Baylor University Press work study students have obtained full-time positions in publishing after graduation.
Skills/Major/Prerequisites: Applicants should love books and have an interest in the publishing industry. If your definition of fun is proofreading your friends' papers, this is the job for you. You must have a strong work ethic, high level of attention to detail, excellent spelling and grammar, and experience with Microsoft Word. Familiarity with Adobe programs (Acrobat, Photoshop, InDesign) is helpful but not required. Training will be provided. The position is open to students from all majors, but majors in professional writing and English are especially encouraged to apply.
Special Instructions for applicants: Baylor University Press may request that applicants take a test to evaluate their writing and editing skills.
Minimum GPA requirement: 3.5
  • Provide mid to advanced level administrative and operational support for day-to-day tasks
  • May serve as initial contact for in-person guests or callers; provide excellent customer service
  • May generate, prepare and analyze reports or perform forecasting
  • May create creative content or maintain department website(s)
  • May assist with special projects and initiatives supporting departmental goals
  • May assist with planning or coordination of events
