Job Description

Join a leading steel joist and deck fabrication company in the United States as a Structural Engineer. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects, including retail buildings, schools, and warehouses, while providing engineering direction across multiple departments.

Responsibilities

  • Design steel decking in accordance with Steel Deck Institute standards.
  • Review and develop engineering tools specific to steel deck.
  • Create roof and floor designs for various projects.
  • Provide engineering direction to detailing, design, sales, and production departments.
  • Interpret contract documents and communicate product design requirements with architects, engineers of record, and fabricators.
  • Design joists and joist girders per Steel Joist Institute standards.
  • Collaborate with detailing team on steel joist design and work closely with the steel deck team.
  • Assist in material review with estimating team and perform engineering review prior to design detailing.
  • Provide guidance on design changes, focusing on load calculations and measurements.
  • Assist detailers with questions and review drawings and RFIs from designers.
  • Design complex or unique drawings and calculate for concrete pour stops.
  • Adjust field modifications or manage damaged parts with a focus on load calculations and measurements.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent for Civil P.E. qualification.
  • Minimum Civil E.I.T. certification with a desire to become a Civil P.E.
  • Interest in structural steel design, specifically steel deck design.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience in the steel deck or structural steel design industry.
  • Civil P.E. certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency in software such as Ansys, STAAD, MathCAD, or AutoCAD.
