Product Engineer - Slip Rings - Entry Level

Product Engineer - Slip Rings - Entry Level
Your Mission
The Product Engineer provides support through all phases of the product life cycle. Responsibilities include design of new products, improving existing products, performing testing for proof of product integrity, reducing costs and improving product quality. This is an exciting position for an early career engineer or an exceptional new graduate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
How you will make a difference
  • Application support of slip ring product line with customers via email, phone, web meetings, and in person visits.
  • Review project assignments with supervisor to establish project objectives, schedules and costs as related to product quality, cost and performance.
  • Design and develop sliding contact slip rings based on customer specifications, company and industry standards.
  • Determine sources for new parts and support procurement department in qualifying the supplier.
  • Analyze and determine discrepant material dispositions.
  • Respond to technical questions from international subsidiaries and domestic salespeople.
  • Assist manufacturing and assembly on first production builds.
  • Initiate engineering change orders as needed.
  • Component and material research and selection based on the product requirements.
  • Create design concepts, models and drawings in CAD.
  • Product validation, HALT (highly accelerated life testing), verification and compliance testing using motor drives, multimeters, hi-pot (high potential) tester, oscilloscope, etc.
  • Develop and test new concepts and materials as needed for new products, performance improvements and cost reductions.
  • Analyze and determine possible product failure modes and establish a project plan of action to increase reliability.
  • Build prototype models and perform required testing to meet project needs.
  • Analyze test results and prepare project reports with recommendations for company action.

What you should be good at
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Design of new products through use of CAD techniques, calculations, and testing.
  • Writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Presenting information and responding to questions from managers, other departments, and customers.
  • Working with mathematical concepts and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Collaborate effectively within a small cross-functional engineering team.
  • Knowledge of quality assembly and soldering practices and methods, able to perform basic soldering and assembly of electrical and mechanical components.
