Join Novelis' Technology R&D organization as an Entry-Level Engineer and become a key contributor to the development of cutting-edge flat rolled aluminum products. As part of the Metallurgy team, you will work on innovative projects that enhance product performance, improve processing efficiency, and advance recyclability. Collaborating with manufacturing operations, customers, and external organizations, you will help transform scientific ideas into practical, impactful solutions. This role offers exciting opportunities to work on diverse projects, travel to Novelis plants and regional technology centers, and engage with customers. You'll gain hands-on experience in product and process development while building a strong foundation for future growth in technical and leadership roles. Responsibilities

  • Prioritize Safety: Demonstrate a personal commitment to laboratory safety by adhering to Novelis safety rules and processes, ensuring safety remains the top priority.
  • Support Product and Process Development: Contribute to the development of aluminum flat-rolled products by optimizing processes such as ingot homogenization, hot and cold rolling, heat treatment, and quenching to optimize microstructures for specific properties and performance metrics.
  • Assist Alloy Development: Learn and apply advanced material characterization techniques to support alloy development activities.
  • Manage Priorities: Independently balance multiple work streams supporting project leaders to meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Execute laboratory and pilot-scale plans to support development activities and assist plant-scale trials to ensure operational readiness for new products and processes.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work seamlessly with metallurgy and laboratory teams.
  • Perform Experiments and Investigations: Plan, execute, submit LIMS requests, compile results from experiments, plant trials, and product performance investigations for research projects.
  • Drive Innovation: Create intellectual property to differentiate Novelis from competitors and maintain its leadership position.
  • Enhance R&D Capabilities: Contribute to improving methods, techniques, equipment, and quality within the R&D organization.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering
  • Up to 3 years of industrial experience
  • Understanding of microstructure-property relationships in metals and alloys
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and curiosity in applying current technologies to technical challenges
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America

Preferred qualifications

  • Passion for research and development in aluminum flat-rolled products and processes
  • Hands-on experience designing and executing experimental test plans
  • Familiarity with sheet metal processing operations
  • Metallurgical characterization and qualification testing skills
  • Knowledge of computer-aided design and data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, or SolidWorks
  • Interest in learning CALPHAD software packages, such as Thermo-Calc, JMatPro, FactSage, Pandat
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems
