The City of Virginia Beach is hiring a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Engineer II (Master Electrician) to oversee our Life Safety Systems and Access Control operations. This position provides leadership to a team consisting of one Maintenance Engineer I, one Fire Protection Engineer, and two Electricians, delivering comprehensive maintenance and repair services for life safety systems, elevators, escalators, and Lenel badge access systems throughout the city.
In this role, the Maintenance Engineer II will be responsible for the following:
  • Perform supervisory functions, such as scheduling and prioritizing work assignments.
  • Review mechanical plans and specifications for new installations and renovations to ensure work is complete and in conformance to related electrical codes.
  • Shall perform work on complex components of electrical systems.
  • Monitor the processing of orders for supplies, materials, and repair parts to ensure availability when required and to reduce production delays.
  • Position requires a Master electrician license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.

Qualified candidates will have experience which demonstrates:
  • Knowledge of electrical, fire alarm, fire protection sprinkler, various types of special hazard fire protection systems, elevators, escalators, generators, uninterruptible power supply systems, surge protection devices, lightning protection systems, audio/visual systems and master clock systems.
  • Knowledge of national, state, and local electrical, fire protection and life safety system codes.
  • Ability to administer, enforce and comply with OSHA rules and regulations including daily wear / use of personal protective equipment including arc flash rated uniforms and suits.
  • In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate for this position will have experience listed in the preferences below. Candidates with the preferred experience should ensure the information is provided in the application.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to seven (7) years (three (3) of which should have been in a supervisory position) in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, such as electrical engineering. Master Electrician's license required. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements.
