Position Description Summary/Purpose:
This is an entry-level professional position. It works under the general supervision of the Library Director, assisting in resource organization, technical troubleshooting, and with the library's outreach strategies. It performs a supporting role in assisting students, staff and faculty in retrieving physical and electronic materials. Primary working hours are evenings and some weekends.
Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Receives oral or written directions from Library Director
  • Executes work according to established library procedures
  • Opens and closes library according to security procedures
  • Attends the circulation desk on weekday evenings and three Saturdays each month
  • Liaises with other Student Affairs staff in planning, attending, and assisting with the University's social events
  • Assists with basic library circulation functions
  • Assists students, staff and faculty with basic troubleshooting, i.e. connecting to WiFi, helping with room bookings, using smartboards, unjamming printers, etc
  • Creates engaging displays that market library-provided materials
  • Assists librarians in maintaining physical course reserves
  • Pulls and shelves books as needed
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.
Other Functions:
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation permits
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
  • Strong computer application and digital technology skills
  • Familiarity with academic libraries
  • Strong attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work effectively with other staff and desire to learn new skills
  • Ability to understand and use the library services provided by the University's integrated library systems
  • Substantial interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.
