The Brown lab at the University of Utah seeks a research technician to support projects related to fungal pathogenesis and biology. We using molecular, cellular, and genetic approaches to study the biology of pathogenic fungi. We are looking for a research technician to support projects in the lab in this general area.
Perform laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses. Prepare and weigh samples for testing and analysis. Conduct tests, assays, and other protocols under the direction of a laboratory services manager, physician, nurse, or scientist. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs). Ensure all laboratory equipment and work areas are clean, sterile, and in proper working order. May be responsible for calibration of instruments. Mid-level support role. Completes routine tasks under moderate supervision.
Requires at least 1 year of related experience.

Responsibilities
Specific duties: Support projects on fungal biology and pathogenesis by performing genetic manipulation of fungal, PCR and DNA extraction, whole genome sequencing sample preparation and analysis, fungal culturing experiments, cell imaging, and pathogenesis experiments in tissue culture and animal models. Employee is expected to maintain an up-to-date lab notebook, participate in lab meetings, and present and discuss findings under guidance of mentors.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

Laboratory Technician, I: Requires little to no related experience.

Laboratory Technician, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience.
Preferences
  • Recent college graduate planning to apply to PhD programs
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques (PCR, DNA analysis, etc.), fungal culture and genetic manipulation
  • Experience with systems models of pathogenesis
  • Requires at least 1 year of related experience.
