About the Role

The Assistant Project Manager - Construction supports the successful delivery of projects from preconstruction through closeout by coordinating costs, schedules, document control, and quality. Working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Owners, Architects, Consultants, and Trade Partners. This role helps ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with Berglund Construction’s standards. This role is designed for candidates eager to deepen their knowledge of construction management.

The Assistant Project Manager - Construction reports to the Project Manager.

What You’ll Accomplish Project Coordination
  • Assist Project Manager all phases of commercial construction projects from award through final completion.
  • Support field staff and maintain open communication with the Superintendent.
  • Prepare and attend project meetings, draft agendas, and record minutes.

Maintain project logs (RFIs, Submittals, PCOs) and track progress.

Project Setup & Documentation
  • Review contracts, drawings, and specifications: identifying long lead items and critical paths.
  • Distribute project schedules and ensure subcontractors have current scopes of work.
  • Obtain permits and support pre-installation meetings.
  • Develop and manage submittal logs, RFIs, and coordinate drawings.
  • Ensure subcontractor contracts, insurance, and bonds are current before work before begins.
  • Support bid evaluations and subcontractor buyouts.
  • Execute payment applications and assist with quality take-offs
  • Review and code invoices, verifying accuracy against cost forecasts.
  • Distribute and follow up on punch lists.
  • Collect and assemble closeout documents.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Champion jobsite safety and ensure adherence to company and regulatory safety standards.
  • Monitor work quality and ensure compliance with project standards.

Stay detailed-oriented under pressure and manage time effectively.

Relationships
  • Build and maintain positive client, subcontractor, and vendor relationships.
  • Promote collaboration and professionalism across all project stakeholders.
  • Act with integrity and uphold company values.
What We’re Looking For Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or related field preferred.
  • 1 – 3 years of construction experience preferred.
  • Experience working for a General Contractor is highly preferred.
  • Internship or co-op experience may substitute for some experience.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and project management software: Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, etc.
  • Ability to travel locally or regionally as project needs required.
