The main difference is that Engineering Coordinators focus on project management, scheduling, and coordinating engineering activities, while Engineering Technicians perform technical and hands-on tasks to support engineering projects. Both roles require technical knowledge, but their responsibilities and daily tasks differ significantly.

What are Engineering Coordinators?

Engineering Coordinators are professionals who support engineering teams by managing administrative tasks, project schedules, documentation, and communication between different departments. They help ensure that engineering projects run smoothly by organizing meetings, tracking project progress, and maintaining records. Job description

Overview

The SR400 Express Lanes Project is a transformative $4.6 billion infrastructure initiative led by SR400 Constructors, a 50/50 joint venture between Flatiron Dragados and ACCIONA. Commissioned by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and Georgia State Road Tollway Authority (SRTA), the project will add two 16-mile express lanes from Sandy Springs MARTA Station (Exit 5) to McFarland (Exit 12), enhancing mobility along one of Georgia's busiest corridors. With a peak workforce of over 500, the project also includes dedicated bus rapid transit stations and key bridge refurbishments. Construction is set to begin in late 2025, with substantial completion anticipated in 2031.

The Construction Engineering Coordinator will play a key role in supporting construction activities through the coordination, management, and delivery of engineering designs required mainly for temporary works but also for permanent works on the SR400 Express Lanes Project. This position will serve as the primary technical office point of contact with the construction team, ensuring that all constructionrelated designs are developed, reviewed, coordinated, and issued in accordance with project schedule and field needs. The role focuses heavily on the coordination of temporary works design, including demolition plans, temporary pavements, temporary walls, shoring, embankments, staging, and traffic control elements, while also providing ongoing support for permanent design packages, field changes, constructability resolutions, and quality compliance. The Construction Engineering Coordinator will be assigned to one of the three segments of the Project and will manage interfaces between designers, subconsultants, and reviewers to ensure timely delivery and full closure of comments.

What you will be doing
  • Coordinate all engineering activities required to support construction, with primary responsibility for temporary works design such as demolition sequencing, temporary pavements, walls, embankments, shoring, and staging plans.
  • Act as the main technical liaison between the construction team and the Technical Office, reporting to the technical office manager and ensuring engineering solutions meet field requirements and construction sequencing needs.
  • Coordinate with subconsultants, design coordinators, and internal disciplines to ensure designs are delivered on time and aligned with construction priorities.
  • As the Project progress, provide engineering support for the permanent works on the assigned project segment, including responses to field changes, proposed design modifications, and constructability issues.
  • Support resolution of field changes, nonconformities, and technical issues arising during construction.
  • Review and coordinate shop drawings, working drawings, and technical submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements and constructability.
  • Manage and track RFIs, design clarifications, submittals, and shop drawings through review and approval cycles.
  • Support shortterm and longterm construction planning by aligning engineering deliverables with the construction schedule.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports, design narratives, and supporting documentation for construction activities.
  • Support quality management by identifying, tracking, and coordinating resolution of nonconforming work related to design or execution.
  • Conduct constructability and field reviews to verify that construction activities align with approved designs and specifications.
  • Support compliance with GDOT requirements, contract documents, and projectspecific engineering standards.
  • Support coordination with GDOT, SRTA, utility owners, and other stakeholders as required for engineering reviews and approvals.
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience supporting heavy civil or transportation construction projects, preferably with designconstruction interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of temporary works, construction sequencing, and field engineering support.
  • Familiarity with GDOT standards, specifications, and review processes.
  • Experience coordinating with design teams and subconsultants.
  • Proficiency with engineering and construction software such as Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Microstation, Procore, or similar tools.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deliverables and review cycles simultaneously.
