Job description

American Farm Bureau Insurance Services, Inc. (AFBIS, Inc.) is looking for a Software Engineering Supervisor to work out of our Fargo, ND office. As a leader on our software development team, you will be responsible for overseeing and delivering high-quality software solutions, as well as providing leadership, mentorship and guidance to the software engineering team. This is a hybrid role working out of the Fargo office at least two days a week and one additional day within a two-week period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, leadership, and support fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional growth and development.
  • Oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of software applications, ensuring adherence to coding standards, code quality, best practices, and project timelines.
  • Conduct regular meetings to keep software engineering department updated on the overall status of all current projects.
  • Attend regular meetings to assist with prioritizing projects, identifying bottlenecks, and assigning projects created by the Projects department.
  • Lead and contribute to architectural decisions, technical design reviews, process improvements, automation and innovation, and cross-team collaboration initiatives.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in software development, and champion the adoption of new tools, frameworks, and practices.
  • Participates in programming activities, developing code when needed.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and expertise to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Analyze software projects at the beginning of each release cycle and assign projects to other developers based on their areas of expertise and experience.

What you will bring to this position:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent
  • 6+ years of software development experience and experience managing projects, along with 3+ years of People Management experience
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, performance optimization, secure coding practices, and production operations
  • Experience with system monitoring, troubleshooting, incident management, and maintaining highly available production environments
  • In-depth understanding of IT department operations, technologies and systems
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies, such as Agile, Scrum or Waterfall
  • Scrum Master Certified, PMP, or similar industry certifications are preferred

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $90,000 and $120,000. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
