Position Overview
The Engineering Consultant I supports Celerityโ€™s project teams by applying engineering expertise to data, documents, and client projects. This role is responsible for reviewing engineering drawings and specifications, validating data, and supporting engineering analysis to ensure accuracy and compliance with client and project requirements. Working closely with lead engineers and project managers, the Engineering Consultant I also assists with calculations, reporting, and project coordination.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review engineering documents, drawings, and specifications to identify key information for analysis.
  • Verify data on underground and overhead electric system structures, including components, configurations, and documentation supporting current asset conditions.
  • Perform searches and data validation using client platforms such as GIS, SAP, and document repositories.
  • Analyze job packages, engineering documentation, and project records to confirm alignment with system conditions.
  • Conduct GIS functions such as querying geodatabases, preparing maps or exhibits, and extracting data for analysis.
  • Provide mark-ups and redlines on engineering documents in accordance with project standards and client specifications.
  • Assist lead engineers or CAD managers with developing construction documents, reports, and project deliverables.
  • Perform engineering design tasks and basic calculations under supervision of a licensed engineer or project manager.
  • Maintain project tracking logs and coordination tools, including status updates, challenges, schedules, and completion milestones.
Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering or closely related field; OR
    • Bachelorโ€™s degree in a non-engineering field plus 1+ year of relevant engineering-related experience; OR
    • Associateโ€™s degree or trade certificate in engineering with 3+ years of experience in related fields such as civil, mechanical, utility, GIS, mapping, surveying, construction, or estimating.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation (experience with utility assets/infrastructure a plus).
  • Experience in preparing, reviewing, and performing QC on feature studies, plan & profile (P&L) drawings, or similar documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of CAD tools (AutoCAD or MicroStation), GIS, and/or SAP systems strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with performing and documenting basic engineering calculations.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based, open environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical matters clearly and concisely.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position approximately 50% of the time.
  • Ability to operate a computer, scanner, copier, and related office equipment on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with staff and clients to exchange accurate project information.
