Civil Engineering Staff - EITย 


Role Description: ย Huitt-Zollars' Austin, Texas office has a full-time opportunity for a Civil Engineering Staff EIT. ย Project opportunities include roadways, water & wastewater, drainage, parks, sidewalks, shared use paths, bicycle lanes, site planning, grading, traffic safety, utilities, construction document preparation, and construction phase services. Position responsibilities will incrementally increase over time and with experience.


Location: Austin, Texas

Registration(s): Registered Engineer-In-Training, or working towards an EIT

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)


Duties:

  • Produce design and construction drawings using information from supervisor, research data, and input from consultants.
  • Produce design plans for private development projects and clients. ย 
  • Design and drafting of site development projects and offsite improvements; potential for work in other practice areas (public works, transportation) as workload dictates; site work includes grading, drainage, LID).
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to prepare plan and profile construction drawings.
  • Assist project manager with of design plans, specifications, construction support, cost estimating.
  • Research materials and assemblies for design and construction drawings as directed by supervisor.
  • Conduct site visits and assist with documenting findings.
  • Attend, record, and distribute meeting minutes, and assist with general project correspondence.
  • Compose and prepare graphic materials for presentations and documents.
  • Prepare hydrologic and hydraulic studies, drainage analysis and design, FEMA permitting, and construction documents for a wide range of water resources projects for both public and private clients.
  • Analysis and design will include use of HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, GIS, XPSWMM, Civil 3D and various drainage tools. Our projects require the application of cutting-edge software and engineering judgment to develop sustainable solutions for our clients.

  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.ย ย 
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.
  • Assist with appropriate administrative and project support tasks supporting the needs of the project team and office.ย 
  • Complete assignments on-time, within budget, and with highest level of quality.ย 
  • Routinely proposes and produces more effective ways to accomplish assignments.ย 

Qualifications: ย 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
  • 1-3 years' related experience.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam / EIT certification (or must be obtained within reasonable time after hire).
  • Proficient in MS Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Capability to utilize AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good Communication Skills.
  • Works well in a Team Environment and has the ability to collaborate both in-person and virtually with fellow team members.
  • Thorough attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of construction and engineering means, methods and techniques.
  • Ability to prepare civil engineering documents and specifications for projects.
  • Ability to review and understand construction documents and plans, calculations, and/or models.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
