Job description

Zurich is currently looking for a Construction Risk Engineer Consultant for the Casualty Lines of Business. This is a Minnesota based remote role supporting the upper Midwest region. Ideal location includes Minneapolis and surrounding areas. The position includes a company car, with expected travel of 30% to 50% and overnight travel of 20% to 30% of your time depending on business needs. This role could be filled at either a Risk Engineering Consultant or at the Sr. Risk Engineering Consultant level, this will be at the manager's discretion.
As a Construction Risk Engineering Consultant, you will be responsible for:
  • Apply Zurich risk engineering solutions to construction customers to help reduce losses and improve risk management outcomes.
  • Leverage Zurich's risk engineering tools and services to improve customer risk and general account management of customers who purchase Zurich Construction Insurance products such as: Workers Compensation, General Liability and Auto Liability.
  • Deliver high-quality consultative services, including exposure identification, evaluation of risk control gaps, and development of practical risk mitigation recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain positive customer and business partner relationships, collaborating to create appropriate service plans.
  • Partner with Construction Underwriting to evaluate and assess existing and prospective customers.
  • Identify opportunities to provide fee-based services that support customer risk mitigation and performance improvement efforts.
  • Develop and deliver advanced presentations and risk management training for customers and internal business partners.
  • Providing appropriate risk improvement advice, conduct loss investigations (including both trend and root cause analysis), and implementing risk improvement programs.
  • Assist customers with corporate and project specific safety plans, QA/QC programs, construction defect investigations when applicable, building envelope reviews, and moisture mitigation strategies.
  • Actively participate and engage in local construction industry associations.

Final candidates will also be subject to a Motor Vehicle record background check, because this position will include a company car.
Basic Qualifications:
Risk Engineering Consultant:
  • Bachelors Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Apprentice, including an Associates degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
    AND
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Relevant experience in the assessment of risk, based on what is required by LOB specific competency standards

OR
Senior Risk Engineering Consultant:
  • Bachelors Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering, Safety/ Risk Management, Construction Field Operations, Engineering or relatable field.
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering, Safety/ Risk Management, Construction Field Operations, Engineering or relatable field.
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Apprentice, including an Associates degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering, Safety/ Risk Management, Construction Field Operations, Engineering, or relatable field.
    AND
  • Experience working in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced knowledge of construction safety, operations, quality management, and associated risks, exposures and controls.
  • Experience with large commercial construction, data center construction, and regulated or non-regulated fleets.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills for customer-facing and internal work products.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and consulting skills with the ability to engage effectively at both corporate and project site levels.
  • Have a high level of computer literacy and be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Copilot, and mobile IOS devices.
  • Professional certifications: CHST, ASP, CSP, CRIS, ARM
  • Relevant experience as a corporate safety professional, site safety leader, project manager, or superintendent with safety responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and involvement in professional, community, or public service activities.

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. The combined salary range for this position is $79,600.00 - $172,300.00. The proposed salary range for the Risk Engineering Consultant is $79,600.00 - $130,300.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%. The proposed salary range for the Senior Risk Engineering Consultant is $105,200.00 - $172,300.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.
