What are some common challenges professionals face when working in embedded finance roles?

Professionals in Embedded Finance often navigate challenges such as integrating financial services seamlessly into non-financial platforms, ensuring compliance with complex regulations, and maintaining robust data security. Collaboration across teams—like product, engineering, and compliance—is essential to deliver a smooth user experience while adhering to legal standards. Staying current with evolving fintech trends and regulatory changes is also key, as these can significantly impact product development and timelines.

What is embedded finance?

Embedded finance refers to the integration of financial services such as payments, lending, insurance, or investments into non-financial platforms or products. This means that companies outside of traditional banking can offer financial services directly to their customers through their own apps or websites. Examples include ride-sharing apps that offer in-app payments, e-commerce sites providing 'buy now, pay later' options, or retail brands offering branded credit cards. Embedded finance streamlines the customer experience by making financial transactions seamless and convenient within everyday digital interactions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an embedded finance professional?

To thrive in Embedded Finance, you need a strong background in finance, fintech, and software development, often supported by degrees in finance, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with APIs, payment processing platforms, compliance systems, and certifications such as CFA or relevant fintech credentials is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills for integrating financial solutions across industries. These competencies are crucial to ensure secure, innovative, and seamless financial services within non-financial platforms.

Job description

About Us:

Piermont Bank is a boutique specialty commercial bank focused on serving modern businesses with a digital first approach. As the first cloud native bank launched in the United States, Piermont was built on modern infrastructure that allows us to operate with greater flexibility, efficiency, and scalability than traditional banks.

We combine disciplined commercial banking with innovative technology to deliver value added solutions for small and medium sized businesses and our fintech partners. Our team is dedicated to thoughtful risk management, strong client relationships, and building a bank designed for the future of financial services.

The Role:

The Embedded Banking Sales & Business Development Manager is a highly strategic and relationshipdriven role responsible for growing fintech/bank partnerships . This role focuses on acquiring, developing, and managing enterpriselevel clients, such as FinTechs, SaaS platforms, and technology providers, that integrate our banking products directly into their customer experiences.

The ideal candidate combines deep knowledge of banking services with a strong understanding of APIdriven banking, embedded finance, and platform monetization. You will serve as a trusted advisor to enterprise partners, driving revenue growth while ensuring exceptional partner experience and longterm value creation.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, evaluate, and manage embedded banking partners across fintech, SaaS, ecommerce, and platform ecosystems, ensuring alignment with the bank's risk appetite, regulatory obligations, and strategic objectives.
  • Lead partner engagement from initial discovery through due diligence, solution design, commercial structuring, contracting, and longterm relationship stewardship.
  • Develop tailored embeddedfinance value propositions that connect partner business models with the bank's deposit, payments, lending, and APIbased capabilities-while ensuring compliance with sponsor bank requirements.
  • Maintain a transparent and wellgoverned partner pipeline, providing accurate forecasting and supporting responsible, sustainable revenue growth.
  • Gain deep insight into partner product roadmaps, operational workflows, compliance frameworks, and strategic priorities to drive adoption, expansion, and ongoing program health.
  • Coordinate crossfunctional teams-including compliance, BSA/AML, risk, product, operations, legal, and onboarding-to ensure partners meet regulatory expectations and integrate seamlessly into the bank's oversight model.
  • Collaborate closely with product and risk teams to relay partner needs, influence roadmap decisions, and support the evolution of the bank's embedded banking and BaaS offerings.
  • Stay informed on regulatory, competitive, and technological developments shaping sponsor banking, embedded finance, and digital banking to ensure programs remain compliant, competitive, and future

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in enterprise sales, relationship management, or strategic partnerships within financial services, fintech, SaaS, or payments.
  • Strong understanding of embedded banking, BaaS, APIdriven financial products, and digital banking infrastructure.
  • Proven track record of closing complex enterprise deals and managing multistakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into business value for both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and executivelevel presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and drive insights.
  • Comfortable operating in a fastpaced, evolving environment with high levels of autonomy.

The hiring range for this position is $150,000 to $170,000 (base pay) per year, depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. A bonus incentive plan will be structured based on revenue goals, with payouts up to 100% of base pay.  In addition, the bank offers a full range of medical, dental, vision, 401k, and other benefits.
