What are some common challenges professionals face when working in Embedded Finance roles?

Professionals in Embedded Finance often navigate challenges such as integrating financial services seamlessly into non-financial platforms, ensuring compliance with complex regulations, and maintaining robust data security. Collaboration across teams—like product, engineering, and compliance—is essential to deliver a smooth user experience while adhering to legal standards. Staying current with evolving fintech trends and regulatory changes is also key, as these can significantly impact product development and timelines.

What is embedded finance?

Embedded finance refers to the integration of financial services such as payments, lending, insurance, or investments into non-financial platforms or products. This means that companies outside of traditional banking can offer financial services directly to their customers through their own apps or websites. Examples include ride-sharing apps that offer in-app payments, e-commerce sites providing 'buy now, pay later' options, or retail brands offering branded credit cards. Embedded finance streamlines the customer experience by making financial transactions seamless and convenient within everyday digital interactions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Embedded Finance professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Embedded Finance, you need a strong background in finance, fintech, and software development, often supported by degrees in finance, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with APIs, payment processing platforms, compliance systems, and certifications such as CFA or relevant fintech credentials is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills for integrating financial solutions across industries. These competencies are crucial to ensure secure, innovative, and seamless financial services within non-financial platforms.

Job description

Location: New York

Who We Are: LeagueApps is the operating system and community for youth and local sports leaders, equipping them with the technology, tools, and professional network they need to grow, scale, and play for the future. Our platform powers thousands of clubs, tournaments, leagues, camps, and facilities, serving over 10 million participants nationwide. Backed by professional leagues, teams, and athletes as investors and partners, we're helping modernize the youth sports industry with our best-in-class SaaS platform.

We operate at the intersection of sports, technology, and community. From registration to payments to communications, our platform makes running sports seamless for organizations across the country. Beyond software, we foster a community of leaders, sharing insights on critical issues like increasing girls' participation in sports, preventing youth injuries, and understanding how technology is shaping the future of play.

Mission-driven at our core, our purpose is to create amazing sports experiences for all. To further this mission, we founded and continue to support the FundPlay Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening sports-based youth development organizations. FundPlay helps bring meaningful sports opportunities to hundreds of thousands of underserved kids and communities every year.

Role Mission: As Senior Product Manager, Financial Services, you will own the end-to-end financial experience for sports organizers,  from how money flows into the platform to how it is managed, reconciled, deployed, and scaled. Reporting to the Head of Product, you'll set the strategy and execution for the financial services domain, building a cohesive, compliant, and scalable system that supports organizers' full financial lifecycle.

This role is deeply hands-on and execution-oriented. You will operate at the intersection of fintech, SaaS, and sports operations, building integrated financial workflows that enable organizers to collect revenue, manage expenses, reconcile accounts, and access capital,  all within a unified platform experience. While you won't have direct people management responsibilities, you'll be expected to operate with senior-level judgment, cross-functional influence, and full ownership of one of the company's most strategic growth areas.

What You'll Do:

  • Own the product strategy, roadmap, and execution for our Financial Services portfolio, including payments, budgeting, accounting tools, lending, embedded banking, and card programs.
  • Define and prioritize features and enhancements based on partner needs, data insights, and business objectives.
  • Translate complex requirements into clear product specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Identify opportunities to expand embedded finance capabilities that drive revenue growth, retention, and platform differentiation.
  • Partner closely with engineering and design throughout discovery, delivery, and iteration.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Compliance, and external banking/payment partners to support regulated product initiatives (KYC, AML, PCI, ACH, card issuance, lending).
  • Act as a key point of contact for stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Customer Success, Finance, and Payments.
  • Lead agile product processes, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and release execution.
  • Monitor product performance and partner usage metrics, using insights to inform decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Payments stakeholders to support compliance, scale, and monetization initiatives.
  • Work closely with other Product Managers to ensure cohesive, end-to-end partner experiences across the platform.
  • Stay current on fintech trends, embedded finance models, sponsor bank partnerships, and evolving regulatory requirements in the U.S. market.

Who You Are:

  • 6-8+ years of product management experience, including significant ownership of fintech, payments, banking, or transaction-heavy platforms.
  • Proven ability to lead complex product initiatives from discovery through delivery as a senior individual contributor.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. payments infrastructure (ACH, card networks, payment processors) and familiarity with embedded finance models.
  • Experience working in regulated environments and collaborating with compliance, legal, and risk stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and commercial acumen, with experience owning revenue-driving products or fintech monetization models.
  • Comfortable navigating complex systems and balancing speed with operational reliability and compliance.
  • Clear, confident communicator who can influence engineering, finance, and executive stakeholders without formal authority.
  • Highly collaborative partner who thrives in cross-functional environments.
  • Passionate about building trusted financial tools that enable sports organizers to operate and grow sustainably.
  • Energized by the opportunity to serve sports communities and strengthen the financial backbone of youth and amateur sports.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: $121,654 - $182,481
  • Health Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision coverage, HSA
  • Commuter Benefits
  • Home-Office Stipend
  • Sports Leagues subsidies for employees and their children
  • Cell phone and gym subsidies
  • Mental Health Resources; Talk Space
