What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Embedded Finance professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Embedded Finance, you need a strong background in finance, fintech, and software development, often supported by degrees in finance, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with APIs, payment processing platforms, compliance systems, and certifications such as CFA or relevant fintech credentials is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills for integrating financial solutions across industries. These competencies are crucial to ensure secure, innovative, and seamless financial services within non-financial platforms.

What are some common challenges professionals face when working in Embedded Finance roles?

Professionals in Embedded Finance often navigate challenges such as integrating financial services seamlessly into non-financial platforms, ensuring compliance with complex regulations, and maintaining robust data security. Collaboration across teams—like product, engineering, and compliance—is essential to deliver a smooth user experience while adhering to legal standards. Staying current with evolving fintech trends and regulatory changes is also key, as these can significantly impact product development and timelines.

What is embedded finance?

Embedded finance refers to the integration of financial services such as payments, lending, insurance, or investments into non-financial platforms or products. This means that companies outside of traditional banking can offer financial services directly to their customers through their own apps or websites. Examples include ride-sharing apps that offer in-app payments, e-commerce sites providing 'buy now, pay later' options, or retail brands offering branded credit cards. Embedded finance streamlines the customer experience by making financial transactions seamless and convenient within everyday digital interactions.

Job description

Description

Embedded Deposit Product Manager (Vice President)

Citizens Bank is seeking a highly motivated, strategic, and executionoriented Product Manager to join the Embedded Finance team as an Embedded Deposit Product Manager (VP). This role will be responsible for driving the strategy, solutioning, and execution of embedded deposit partnerships across priority verticals, with a primary focus on insured deposit networks, Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs), and domestic financial institution services, including correspondent banking.

The Embedded Deposit Product Manager will serve as the dedicated subject matter expert and point of ownership for embedded deposit opportunities, partnering closely with Liquidity Product, Embedded Finance, Sales, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and Technology teams to identify, structure, and scale embedded deposit programs that align with Citizens' liquidity strategy, cost of funds objectives, and risk frameworks.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Drive solutioning and execution of new embedded deposit partnerships across key verticals including insured deposit networks, RIAs, and domestic financial institutions.
  • Serve as the primary owner for assessing inbound embedded deposit opportunities, conducting gap analysis to determine where Citizens' existing products, capabilities, risk frameworks, or operations either support or constrain potential opportunities.
  • Identify and evaluate new embedded deposit verticals, building and owning business cases that support expansion into new use cases and client segments.
  • Partner with internal product, risk, compliance, and operations teams to drive alignment and execution on:
    • New product development needs
    • Enhancements to existing deposit products
    • Updates to risk frameworks and controls
    • Operational model changes required to support embedded deposit programs
  • Develop deep expertise in Citizens Liquidity and Deposit products, including product value propositions, revenue potential, pricing strategies, deposit classifications, and cost of funds objectives.
  • Support select embedded payments (thirdparty payment) partnership opportunities as applicable, representing approximately 5-20% of the role depending on interest and business need.
  • Act as a central point of coordination across stakeholders to ensure embedded deposit initiatives progress efficiently from concept through execution and scale.
Why This Role Is Critical

Without a dedicated Embedded Deposit Product Manager, Citizens risks limited progress against significant embedded deposit opportunities across insured deposit networks, RIAs, and U.S. financial institutions. These opportunities require sustained focus, deep subject matter expertise, and coordinated execution that cannot be effectively advanced through distributed, parttime ownership across multiple teams. Continued reliance on senior leaders and product teams for adhoc opportunity progression is not a scalable or efficient model and materially impacts both revenue realization and effective business management.

This role provides the dedicated ownership required to drive momentum, unlock revenue opportunities, and ensure embedded deposit initiatives are executed in a disciplined, scalable manner aligned to Citizens' strategic objectives.

Qualifications
  • 5-10+ years of experience in financial services, with experience in product management, liquidity, deposits, embedded finance, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of deposit products, liquidity management, and banking operating models, preferably with exposure to embedded or partnerled solutions.
  • Experience partnering with fintechs, platforms, RIAs, or financial institutions to deliver integrated or embedded financial solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to build business cases, assess productmarket fit, and drive crossfunctional execution in regulated environments.
  • Strong analytical skills and business judgment, with the ability to translate complex opportunities into actionable product and execution plans.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills across product, risk, compliance, operations, and sales teams.
  • Selfstarter with strong prioritization, program management, and execution discipline.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery frameworks and product delivery tools is preferred.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree required
Work Schedule
  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday
  • Ability to work 4 days per week onsite
