POSITION: Elementary Assistant Principal

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides instructional leadership to staff including curriculum, review and implementation and professional development. Responsible and assist with day-to-day building administration and the safety and welfare of both students, staff and activities. Ensures a safe, pleasant and effective educational atmosphere, provides disciple as necessary and enforces school policy.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):

· Valid Indiana Administrators License

· Successful experience in elementary education

· Experience in Title I program/school

· Experience in Special Education program/school

· Experience in Urban educational environment


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Serves as the administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal

2. Administers a program of student discipline and interacts with students to encourage positive performance

3. Assists with staff evaluations

4. Manages building staff including class schedules and building problems

5. Supervises staff attendance and assignment of substitute teachers

6. Assists scheduling special events during the school day

7. Assists with coordinating the development of the master teaching schedule

8. Provides general supervision to students; supervisors extracurricular activities

9. Maintains relationship with parents and community

10. Serves as an instructional leader in the building

11. Assists principal in overseeing all school improvement initiatives

12. Serves as the School Test Coordinator

13. Supports and monitors student attendance

14. Serves as MTSS Committee Chair; implements and monitors MTSS process and procedures

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Experience in building management and support services

· Work in culturally/diverse educational environment

· Knowledge of instructional systems technologies

· Experience in supervision/evaluation of school personnel

· Experience in a full-service school

· Knowledge of current education/research-based school and student initiatives

· Performs other related duties, as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school duties
