Purchasing Manager

Ready to take ownership of a critical function in a growing organization?

Thompson Solutions Group is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead our purchasing operations and help drive success across our Electrical Construction, Service, and Limited Energy teams. This is a high-impact leadership role for a strategic thinker who thrives on building strong supplier partnerships, improving processes, supporting operations, and ensuring project teams have the materials and resources they need to deliver exceptional results.

As Purchasing Manager, you'll partner with leaders throughout the organization to develop purchasing strategies, strengthen vendor relationships, manage purchasing and inventory staff, and support projects from planning through completion.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the Purchasing Department and support material procurement across multiple business units.
  • Develop purchasing strategies that support project success, operational goals, and company growth.
  • Build and strengthen supplier partnerships to ensure quality, availability, and competitive pricing.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing agreements, and supplier programs to maximize value.
  • Collaborate with project, service, and operations teams to anticipate and meet purchasing needs.
  • Establish and monitor supplier performance standards and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure materials, equipment, rentals, and subcontracted services are sourced efficiently and cost effectively.
  • Lead, coach, and develop purchasing and inventory team members.
  • Oversee purchasing processes, documentation, and compliance with company procedures.
What We're Looking For
  • 7-10 years of progressive purchasing or supply chain experience.
  • Previous leadership experience managing or leading a team.
  • Strong negotiating skills with the ability to build productive relationships both internally and externally.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of purchasing practices, policies, and vendor management.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new software and ERP systems.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites and business meetings as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Experience working in the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of electrical materials, equipment, suppliers, lead times, pricing structures, and project purchasing requirements.
