Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Engineer. As an Electrical Maintenance Engineer, you will be an integral part of the autonomous work teams that make up the New Carlisle Works production and maintenance organizations. The individual at this level is a seasoned electrical engineering professional who demonstrates a broad grasp of the technical and administrative aspects of electrical engineering techniques and principles. Projects assigned are complex, involve multiple variables, and can be cross functional. Individuals in this role prepare effective communications across the organization and aid in problem resolution specific to assigned programs/projects.


The New Carlisle Works facility is in New Carlisle, Indiana, and is a 24/7 operation that produces cold-rolled, hot-dipped galvannealed, and electrogalvanized steel coils.
Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develop solutions and implement projects that improve the process and focus on providing electrical and programming logic expertise.

  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting programming, electrical and process issues.

  • Develop and maintain equipment drive and motor strategies to reduce production downtime.

  • Collaborate with various teams to install new and rebuilt production electrical systems.

  • Must be able to create and modify programming logic systems and code to support and improve the process.

  • Conduct tests to confirm necessary programming and equipment changes.

  • Must possess the ability to work with operations, engineering, maintenance, and other technical resources in a group and then drive results.

  • Analyze and modify blueprints, schematics, and drawings of electrical systems.

  • Must have the ability to lead and/or monitor the electrical work of outside contractors (e.g. electrical system upgrades, expansions, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that the projects are satisfactory and completed in a timely manner.

  • Complete project responsibilities for design, specification, review and development of electrical equipment or systems. Will be involved with making engineering studies, detail design, procurement, installation, acceptance testing and performance audits.

  • Able to respond to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate production and safety concerns.

  • Should have a working knowledge of industrial wiring, controls, and instrumentation.

  • Ability to work in a union environment.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment, utilizing clear and effective communication skills.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.E.) in Electrical Engineering from four-year college or university, or equivalent experience, knowledge, and skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of DC and AC drives troubleshooting and setup.

  • In-depth knowledge of PLC and HMI setup and programming

  • Working knowledge of tuning and calibration of PID loops and controls.

  • Working knowledge of power distribution equipment.

  • Must be able to work in a multi-level organization which operates 24/7.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications, computer skills and data analysis skills.

  • The travel requirement is less than 10%.

  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of engineering experience installing and or servicing / troubleshooting DC Drive, AC Drives and PLCs.

  • Experience in the finishing portion of the steel manufacturing processes.
