The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Convergix, you will play a key role in the design and development of custom automation and robotic solutions - primarily in Automotive BIW and Closures, ensuring functionality, compliance, and reliability through detailed engineering calculations and robust design practices. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, working with the Design leader in meeting project timelines, mentoring other designers, and supporting projects from concept through build, while driving innovation and continuous improvement. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities
  • Play an active role as a team member in the Mechanical Design Engineering team, contributing expertise, and collaborating effectively with colleagues
  • Capable of handling the complete design process, from initial concept development to detailed design, final review and detail drawings
  • Develop and design mechanical components and assemblies, ensuring they meet functional, performance, and manufacturability requirements
  • Oversee the creation of engineering drawings and documentation, adhering to industry standards and company guidelines
  • Stay up to date on the latest mechanical engineering technologies and trends, continuously expanding their knowledge and skills
  • Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and cross function team members to ensure project success, fostering effective communication and teamwork
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly teams, addressing design-related issues and ensuring smooth production processes
  • Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues, analyzing problems, and implementing effective solutions
  • Exhibit excellent communication and teamwork skills, fostering positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders
  • Presenting designs to customers in weekly review meetings

Qualifications and Experience
  • Reliable transportation and an ability to travel
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Journeyman tool maker
  • 10 years of experience in Designing Automation Equipment
  • Automotive Body-In-White Experience preferred
  • Experience with Automotive OEM or Tier 1 preferred
  • Proven ability to lead a small design team and provide direction to junior mechanical engineers
  • Work effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Proficient in NX - Modeling and Drafting. Proficiency in SolidWorks would be a plus
  • Design experience using GM tool kit and GM body shop standards - GMD1
  • Proficient in MS office and engineering calculation software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong practical knowledge of mechanical design and performing engineering calculations

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lifts or move up to 25 pounds.
