Position Title: Director of Adult Education Programs
Department: Workforce Development

Position Purpose:
Piedmont Virginia Community College invites applications for the position of Director of Adult Education Programs at PVCC.
The Director is responsible for strategic leadership, operational management, and growth of PVCC's adult education programs for the region served. These educational programs support adult learners in acquiring college and career competencies including core academic skills, English language acquisition, workplace success, and college-ready skills within targeted high demand career pathways. The role balances high-level strategy with administrative and compliance management.
The Director reports to the Executive Director of Workforce Development and Corporate Partnerships and collaborates with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development.
This is a restricted position and is contingent upon continued funding. A restricted appointment is an appointment to a position that is funded (10% or more) by non-State revenues such as gifts, grants, donations, and contracts or other sources of funding which are not continuing in nature.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Program development and management ensuring alignment with state and federal educational standards.
  • Grant and Fiscal Oversight includes identifying funding sources, writing, and managing multi-faceted grants and budgets to ensure compliance with funder requirements.
  • Staff Supervision includes recruiting, training/professional development, and evaluating instructors and support staff.
  • Student Success: Oversees recruitment, orientation, assessment to ensure students successfully transition to post-secondary education/training or the workforce.
  • Community and Stakeholder Partnerships: Building and maintaining relationships with internal partners, local businesses, school districts, and community organizations to align programs with labor market needs.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Manages student data collection and submits mandatory state and federal reports on program activities and outcomes.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Three years of progressive experience in adult education program management, budget oversight and staff supervision.
  • Commitment to the mission and philosophy of adult education
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, state and national issues pertaining to adult education, higher education, and workforce development including
  • College and career readiness standards, program design, instructional design, standardized assessments, post-secondary credentials, and integrated education and training programs
  • Administrative experience with demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with faculty, staff, students, and other community members
  • Proven ability to work as a collaborator and to build a highly effective working team
  • Demonstrated skill in managing grants and budgets
