Editorial Manager information
What does an editorial manager do?
An Editorial Manager oversees the planning, editing, and production of content for publications, websites, or media platforms. They coordinate with writers, editors, and designers to ensure content meets quality standards and aligns with brand or organizational goals. Responsibilities often include managing editorial calendars, enforcing deadlines, and maintaining consistency in tone and style. They may also collaborate with stakeholders to develop content strategies and optimize workflows.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an editorial manager?
To thrive as an Editorial Manager, you need a strong background in content creation, editing, and project management, often supported by a degree in English, journalism, or communications. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), editorial planning tools, and style guides such as AP or Chicago Manual of Style is common, and certification in editing or digital publishing is advantageous. Leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to mentor and motivate team members are highly valuable soft skills. These competencies ensure efficient editorial workflows, high-quality content, and a positive, collaborative work environment.
What are the main challenges an editorial manager faces in coordinating an editorial team?
Editorial Managers often manage multiple projects and tight deadlines, so balancing priorities and ensuring consistent quality across deliverables can be challenging. They must coordinate input from writers, editors, designers, and stakeholders, which requires strong organizational and communication skills. Additionally, adapting to evolving content trends and changing audience preferences requires flexibility and a proactive approach. Overcoming these challenges is crucial for maintaining content standards and meeting both business and audience goals.

Denver, CO
Rocky Mountain Public Media, Inc. (RMPM) is the parent company of Rocky Mountain PBS, KUVO Jazz, and The Drop. Over a million Coloradans turn to Rocky Mountain PBS, KUVO Jazz, and The Drop to discover provocative and inspiring local, national, and international programming; find diverse viewpoints; score front row center seats to world-class performances; and experience lifelong learning opportunities every month.
Rocky Mountain Public Media is looking for an experienced managing editor who embraces our editorial vision of serving a Colorado where everyone feels seen and heard. This person will co-develop and extend the editorial vision of the radio teams to our suite of digital platforms: assigning and editing all articles, managing the brands' digital editorial staff, developing an editorial calendar and maintaining publication deadlines. This role helps ensure KUVO and THE DROP's digital storytelling reflects and serves diverse Colorado communities through inclusive, audience-centered editorial practices.

- Implement SEO best practices to improve website visibility and search engine rankings.
- Ensure consistency in branding and messaging across all platforms.

- Review, edit and approve all social content before it is published.
- Develop strategies to grow our presence to additional platforms (eg. TikTok, Reddit, etc.)
- Â
Newsletter Creation:
- Develop and shape the editorial voice of our newsletters, with innovation and strategy for growing and engaging our audience.
- Line edit newsletter and email content from KUVO & THE DROP, ensuring overall accuracy and maintaining AP guidelines.
