We currently have an opportunity for a Managing Editor within one of our leading financial services brands, Accounting Today. Accounting Today seeks an enterprising, experienced business writer or editor to help manage the editorial operations of our publication, both in print and online. The successful candidate will have proven project management skills, and be responsible for helping maintain quality and high editorial standards in our coverage of the accounting profession, as well as making sure content is produced on a timely basis. Proven management skills, detail-oriented editing, and experience creating an efficient workflow will all be crucial.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing editorial production and quality control on brand content. This includes proofreading, assigning stories, upholding editorial standards, coordinating with art and production departments, coordinating social media and leading print production.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Staying abreast of important developments in the market served

  • Assisting the editor-in-chief in editorial management for the brand

  • Producing feature articles, news stories and shorter news items each month with minimal supervision in coordination with online editor-in-chief

  • Managing the print production process, including editing and proofreading of pages

  • Maintaining relations with freelancers and coordinating freelance assignments

  • Managing the brand’s social media presence

  • Participating in live and virtual events hosted by Accounting Today (including webinars, virtual summits, and live panels)

  • Representing Accounting Today in other media, industry events, and other public contexts

  • Managing two to three large-scale annual ranking projects

  • Researching trends and ideas for content and providing up-to-date information

  • Editing continually for correct grammar, punctuation, accuracy and spelling

Required qualifications:

Candidates should have a minimum of three years of reporting experience or experience managing a team. Essential skills include an ability to generate unique story ideas and provocative analysis for a sophisticated audience of accountants and tax professionals; to manage copy flows and large projects; to write clearly on deadline; and to cooperate closely with editors and other colleagues in a fast-paced newsroom.

  • Excellent writing, reporting and news management skills

  • Experience in managing teams of reporters and contributors, both internal and external, in person and remote

  • Experience in creating and shaping journalism for multiple channels, including print, digital, video, audio and live events

  • Detail-oriented approach with excellent organization and prioritization skills

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Experience and confidence participating in digital media and other public forums; excellent public speaking and presentation skills

  • Ability to work independently and multitask on a constant basis and under deadlines

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, business or related field

  • Experience covering accounting or tax is a plus
