Summary:

The Director of eCommerce is a senior, cross-functional leader responsible for driving the profitability and growth of the organization’s online sales channels. This role oversees the strategy, execution, and continuous optimization of all digital commerce activities, including marketplaces, with a focus on increasing website traffic, improving conversion rates, maximizing average order value, and managing margin performance. This position is considered hybrid and requires in-office time located at our Corporate Headquarters in Fairhaven, MA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership and management of the entire eCommerce function, including customer experience (design, aesthetics, content, navigation, information architecture, branding/marketing, performance, and functionality.
  • Translate customer behavior and channel insights into action—optimizing site experience, merchandising, campaigns, subscriptions and loyalty/rewards to improve conversion, AOV, and revenue.
  • Achieve and exceed revenue and profitability targets through strategic planning and tactical execution.
  • Advanced Analytics skillset to drive strategic planning, testing, customer insights and performance reports including Google Analytics and other Ecommerce data platforms. Ability to analyze eCommerce performance and metrics, generate regular performance reports, and use insights to inform decision-making and strategy adjustments.
  • Technical expertise managing Shopify retail platform, Shopify App integration, and ERP system and tech stack needs.
  • Oversee and optimize the technical infrastructure of eCommerce platforms, ensuring robust, scalable, and secure operations. Ensure the site is up to date with all privacy and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as traffic, sessions, conversion rates, sales, and customer satisfaction. Identify and roadmap areas that require improvement.
  • Lead website strategy including SEO, GEO/AEO and CRO, to enhance site visibility, improve search performance, and optimize the overall customer experience across the digital platform.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, design, creative, IT, and planning teams to ensure a unified approach to online business growth and build dynamic strategies to improve site and email performance.
  • Lead the e-commerce team, providing guidance, support, and motivation to achieve defined targets. Provide mentorship for further career growth for individuals and teams
  • Identify new revenue opportunities and areas for business development through ongoing market and industry trend analysis. Remain agile to respond to important strategic industry shifts.
  • Working with internal and external teams, the Director will oversee the design, functionality, and user experience of the e-commerce website, ensuring it is optimized for session performance, usability, and improved conversion. Connecting strategy to execution and driving measurable impact on traffic, conversion, and profitability.
  • Establish and manage budgets, P&L, and resource allocation for eCommerce initiatives to support the strategic initiatives to drive sales and achieve profitability targets.
  • Manage site innovations, enhancements, workload and sprints in partnership with Ecommerce agency.
  • Expertise managing Jira boards and organizing sprints for internal and external development teams.
  • Build and maintain bottoms-up annual budgets, ecommerce forecasts, and tracking tools, including daily business and omnichannel metrics, to maximize ROI and drive growth initiatives.
  • Manage weekly revenue reporting and planning against budget: pacing to budget, discounts, refunds. Recommend pivots to email cadence and promotions.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, computer science, or a related field is required; a master’s degree is a plus.
  • 7–10 years of experience managing eCommerce websites, with at least 5 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Extensive knowledge of Shopify functionality and optimization opportunities.
  • Deep understanding of internet best practices, digital marketing, SEO, SEM, PPC, and CRM.
  • Demonstrated ability to specify and communicate technical requirements to development teams.
  • Expertise with web analytics tools, measurement platforms, CMS platforms, and eCommerce technologies.
  • Proven experience in managing and optimizing PPC campaigns, backlinking strategies, and digital marketing initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to compile, interpret, and act on data related to search, conversion, spend, and creative performance.
  • Outstanding leadership, organizational, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Experience managing third-party vendors and cross-functional teams.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, competitor strategies, and emerging eCommerce tools and technologies.
