Job Description:
Job Summary:
Responsible for operating commercial vehicles to haul aggregate materials, including soil, sand, gravel, and asphalt, between job sites, production facilities, and customer locations in support of construction and material production operations, while complying with all safety regulations and company policies.
This is a temporary, project-based position, with the possibility of full-time employment upon successful completion of the project and based on business needs. Work schedules may vary and can include overnight or night shift assignments.
Main Responsibilities:
• Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
• Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and operational readiness.
• Report vehicle defects, maintenance needs, or safety concerns promptly to the maintenance team.
• Operate commercial vehicles safely and efficiently, following all procedures for load securement, blocking, and material transport.
• Maintain the cleanliness and general appearance of assigned vehicles, including both exterior surfaces and the driver's cab.
• Operate various types of trucks and truck/trailer combinations essential to construction and material hauling operations.
• Comply with all applicable OSHA, FMCSA, DOT, and industry regulations, as well as company road rules and safety policies.
• Assist with loading and unloading materials, including operating heavy equipment such as loaders or skid steers when qualified and required.
• Prepare and complete bills of lading, delivery tickets, and other transportation-related documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, and job documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Communicate regularly with supervisors and dispatch regarding delivery schedules, job assignments, and job site conditions.
Education:
• High school diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent work experience.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsements.
• Valid DOT medical certificate.
Skills:
• 2+ years of commercial driving experience preferred; construction experience and experience operating various types of vehicles/combinations highly preferred.
• Previous experience in construction, aggregate hauling, or a similar industry strongly preferred.
• Experience operating and hauling with belly dumps, side dumps, end dumps, water trucks, and similar equipment preferred.
• Ability to maintain a clean driving record and meet all FMCSA CDL driver qualification requirements.
• Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work professionally with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English.
• Demonstrated reliability, attention to safety, and commitment to quality work.
Physical Requirements:
• Wears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required.
• Regularly required to work from a seated position driving a commercial vehicle for long periods to safely operate and control the vehicle during transport duties.
• Regularly required to climb in and out of vehicles and/or equipment to access the operator's area and perform essential job tasks.
• Regularly required to use hands for tasks such as feeling, handling, and manipulating objects, including vehicle components, securing hoses, chains, and couplings; as well as writing and operating a keyboard or mobile device.
• Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) to exchange essential information, receive instructions, and ensure safe and effective work coordination.
• Regularly works in changing environmental conditions (such as outdoor weather, dust, or airborne particles) due to the nature of operational work sites.
• Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals to complete tasks involving vehicle operation, inspection, and maintenance processes.
• Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds to handle materials, tools, and equipment essential job functions with or without assistance.
• Frequently works in environments that may include loud noise, moving equipment, dust, or varying indoor/outdoor conditions depending on operational needs.
• Frequently stands, walks, sits, reaches, and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls to access work areas and complete required tasks.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overtime; overnight travel may be required.
