Kamehameha Schools is hiring for On-Call Bus Drivers to support our Kapฤlama Campus! We are open to hiring junior-level (Bus Driver I) and mid-level (Bus Driver II) positions. Our Bus Drivers are front and center with helping support our students' in their growth from Kindergarten to graduating seniors. We are looking for drivers that love working in a fun and supportive environment.
Ideal candidates will hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with S and P endorsements. We are currently hiring for Temporary, On-Call drivers. Early morning, afternoon, evening shifts are available 7 days a week during the school year - August to May.
Pay ranges from $26.00-$31.00 based on proven success and experience within the field. A training program is available to assist with obtaining the S endorsement.
Job Summary
Safely and efficiently transports students in school buses in compliance with all Kamehameha Schools (KS) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, policies, and procedures. Transports KS affiliates and general public for major campus events.
Essential Responsibilities
Compliance
  • Completes mileage logs and other records as required by KS or department policy, DOT regulations, or State or Federal laws.

Safety
  • Attends safety and technical training, including on-the-job training, as required and directed.
    Demonstrates competence in safety policies and practices.
  • Ensures students follow safety rules and KS behavioral expectations.
  • Manages student behavior as needed to ensure their safe transport and the safety of other students on board.
  • Reports student infractions for further evaluation and corrective action by others.

Other
  • Evaluates road, traffic, and other conditions and seeks approval from Bus Driver III (Lead Bus Driver) or Dispatcher-Scheduler II (Lead Dispatcher-Scheduler) when adjustments to trip plans are indicated.
  • Conducts pre-trip vehicle safety inspections and post-trip cleaning.
  • Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs as part of pre-trip and post-trip routines.
  • May drive other large vehicles within driver license category.

Administrative
  • Records time worked and reports tasks completed in computerized system using desktop computers and/or mobile technology devices.
  • Reports safety hazards or other deficiencies which require corrective action.
  • Participates in campus and department events and activities as scheduled.
  • Complies with KS and department policies.
  • Constructively identifies and suggests ways to improve organizational effectiveness and operational efficiency.

Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the qualifications listed.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum two 2 years' experience as a bus driver.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Good work ethic, including punctuality and good attendance.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to continuously learn new skills and knowledge; ability to demonstrate increasing competence.
  • Ability to read and comprehend street signs, training materials, and correctly instruct others.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow safety instructions.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately communicate via radio/two-way radio.
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules to accommodate after-hours school-related functions and activities.
  • Demonstrated values of inclusion.
    Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with S and P endorsements.

Physical and Mental Requirements
  • May occasionally require physical work; lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling required of objects over 20 pounds.
  • Often requires sitting, and requires standing and walking; occasionally requires bending, crouching, or reaching.
  • Requires ability to communicate via two-way radio.

Working Conditions (including environmental conditions)
  • Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures and exposure to dust, dirt, smoke, unpleasant odors, loud noises, etc.
  • Often work outdoors and indoors.
  • Work occurs throughout the day from early morning to late evening in eight hours shifts or split shifts; overtime may be required to meet operational needs.
