If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking a customer focused shuttle bus driver to help us support a work force of almost 9000 staff. You will be responsible for transporting APL staff members between our Main, South and Montpelier campuses. We are passionate about support and with your help, we will remain a valued partner throughout APL.

As an Temporary (On Call) Shuttle Bus Driver...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to drive APL vehicles, transporting passengers and equipment internally and externally on APL campuses. If selected you will undergo a motor vehicle record check.
  • You will drive special bus tours for staff and APL sponsors and chauffeurLab guests and VIPs to/from designated areas.
  • You will inspect and fuel buses, record vehicle issues and concerns in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal and State Highway Administration (FSHA) regulations.
  • You will maintain the cleanliness, safety and operational standards of vehicles driven.
  • You will assist in other areas of the group as needed.
  • You will be a non-scheduled temp on call staff member. Working only on an intermittent basis to work special events and peak work periods on campus.
  • Hours could range from 7:15 AM - 6:15 PM with no more than a maximum of 29 hours scheduled per week. This role is on call, as needed.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent and read, write and communicate effectively in English.
  • CDL Class A or B with a passenger endorsement is required. No points.
  • Maintain a current DOT medical card and meet applicable DOT requirements, are subject to and comply with DOT random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Are capable of fueling, cleaning and maintaining buses and APL owned vehicles.
  • Work well independently and within a team environment with strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Are able to drive for a minimum of 3 hours without breaks and flexible to work an 8-hour daily schedule with occasional extended shifts as needed. Hours could range from 7:15 AM - 6:15 PM with no more than a maximum of 29 hours scheduled per week.
  • Are able to work on a call status.
  • Hold US Citizenship or permanent resident status, as required to access APL's facilities and networks, subject to applicable laws.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
