ABOUT THE ROLE
The High Museum of Art's Learning and Civic Engagement Department is committed to creating accessible, engaging experiences with art that allow visitors to gain new understandings of art and ideas, develop their creative and technical art-making skills, and connect more deeply with themselves, each other, the museum, and the arts more broadly. Rooted in the museum's guiding principles-growth, inclusivity, connectivity, collaboration, optimism-and the education methods of the department, the Coordinator of Lifelong Learning will work on many aspects of programming for older adult audiences, including public-facing programs, select community partnerships, and older adult group visits. Working as part of the Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning team and under the supervision of the Associate Director of Lifelong Learning and Accessibility, this position coordinates many aspects of the team's shared work, including:
- program coordination and implementation,
- communication with colleagues, patrons and community stakeholders, and
- administrative support.
SALARY: $45,000
SCHEDULE: Weekdays, some weekend and nights as needed support programs and events.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Program Coordination and Implementation (60%):
- Work closely with the Lifelong Learning team to collaboratively plan and implement an array of Culture Collective programs. These include studio-based and conversation-based offerings that connect to the High Museum of Art's rich collection and special exhibitions such as Access for All, Art After Loss, Conversation Pieces, Musing Together, Studio Classes and Workshops, and Walking Tours.
- Coordination includes attending planning meetings; submitting internal event, signage, and ticket requests; scheduling facilitators; assisting patrons with registration; ordering and organizing materials; running program check-in; assisting with set-up and breakdown, and other related logistical support.
Internal and External Communication (25%):
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications on program outreach and ongoing communication with older adult audiences.
- Liaise with internal departments, including Events, Guest Relations, Membership, Security, Housekeeping, LCE colleagues, among others, as well as docent volunteer educators, Teaching Artists, and external facilitators to ensure smooth execution of all programming. Regularly communicate with patrons via phone and email.
Administrative Support (15%):
- Provide administrative support to the creative aging and lifelong learning team, including payment processing, expense tracking, grant reporting, creating presentations, and attendance tracking.
WHAT WILL WE EXPECT OF YOU:
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects on different timelines.
- Curiosity and ability to meet people from multiple walks of life, and to create and sustain an inclusive welcome across all programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Survey Monkey, Wufoo, and Zoom.
- Proficiency in Spanish or Korean preferred but not required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in the humanities, education, or related field and/or two years of relevant work experience.
- Experience working or volunteering with (older) adult learners and/or adults with disabilities is highly desirable.
Language Skills
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability and desire to interact in a professional, courteous, and empathetic manner with staff, collaborators, and participants is essential.
- Comfort with multiple forms of communication, including writing, in person, and via phone.
Mathematical Skills
- Basic math skills, including the ability to accurately track expenses, process payments, reconcile attendance and registration data, and maintain program records.
- Ability to use spreadsheets to organize data, perform basic calculations, and support reporting and grant documentation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequent movement throughout the High and Woodruff Arts Center campus to support programs and events, which may require standing and walking for several consecutive hours.
- Work in environments with moderate noise levels and occasional exposure to loud noise during programs and special events.
- Ability to navigate classroom spaces, set up, move, and store program supplies
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
