Job description

Purpose of the Job

The Dispatcher Manager, Transport is a key figure supporting the Director of Dispatch, in realizing the strategic vision of the Supply and Dispatch organization. In this role, the Dispatcher Manager will play a critical part managing the Dispatch team while also taking on responsibilities that extend beyond our regional hubs. Their leadership will drive the optimization and implementation of dispatch solutions, resulting in business growth, continuous improvement, and enhanced customer service within the designated region. Additionally, they will provide vital analytical insights and perspectives to the Director of Dispatch in their area of responsibility.


Your primary objective is to efficiently manage essential dispatch operations, closely collaborating with Supply, Sales, Operations, Commercial, Finance, and Customers to drive strategic initiatives within your designated region. You will be responsible for leading a high-performing team of land dispatch leads, coordinators, and interns, ensuring seamless 24/7/365 operations.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Team Management - Supervise and manage dispatch personnel, both remote dispatch staff and in-office teams, ensuring effective communication and coordination. Responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new employees.
  • Scheduling / schedule management: Manage schedules for dispatch personnel, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts; AM, PM, weekends & holidays, including PTO calendar management to ensure continuous coverage with adequate staffing.
  • Route Planning - Develop and optimize transportation routes for fuel delivery to ensure timely and efficient operations.
  • Coordination - Collaborate with WFS fuel supply team, drivers, and vendors to coordinate the entire fuel delivery process.
  • Inventory Management - Oversee fuel inventory levels, monitor consumption patterns, and implement strategies to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Laid in Cost Management – Work with supply to determine sourcing based on supply and freight economics.
  • Risk Mitigation - Identify potential risks in fuel delivery operations and develop strategies with the Safety leadership team to mitigate them, ensuring smooth and secure deliveries.
  • Technology Utilization - Utilize pre-existing Dispatch management systems and technologies for real-time tracking, monitoring, and reporting. Suggest enhancements or implement new systems when needed.
  • Vendor Relations - Build and maintain positive relationships with fuel suppliers, Transport service providers, and other relevant vendors.
  • Problem Resolution - Address any issues or challenges that arise during fuel delivery, working to find prompt and effective solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement - Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness in fuel delivery dispatch.

Supervisory Responsibilities


  • The Dispatcher Manager is responsible for all employees in dispatching, including all the dispatchers and the dispatch support within their assigned region.


Education Required

  • College degree preferred and/or equivalent work experience


Work Experience Required


  • 2+ years of management experience as a Dispatch Manager, preferably in the fuel industry.

Technical Skills & Specific Knowledge Required

  • MS Office proficiencies
  • 2+ years of experience with OIR dispatching or similar dispatching systems.
  • 2+ years of experience with PDI or similar in-truck technology.
