What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A Dispatch Associate typically does not earn $10,000 a month without specialized experience or management responsibilities. High earnings in logistics or transportation roles may be achieved through senior positions, owning a business, or working in sales or consulting, but these often require skills, certifications, or entrepreneurial effort rather than just the job title. Most entry-level dispatch roles pay less than this amount without additional qualifications or experience.

What are Dispatch Associates?

Dispatch Associates are professionals responsible for coordinating the movement of goods, vehicles, or personnel to ensure efficient operations within a company. They typically manage schedules, communicate with drivers or staff, track shipments or deliveries, and resolve issues that arise during transit. Their role is crucial in industries like logistics, transportation, and warehousing, where timely and accurate dispatch is essential. Dispatch Associates use technology and strong organizational skills to keep operations running smoothly.

Is it hard to get hired as a dispatcher?

Getting hired as a dispatch associate can vary depending on the industry and location, but generally requires good communication skills, organization, and sometimes a relevant certification or experience. Employers often look for candidates who can handle fast-paced environments and use dispatch software efficiently. Entry-level positions may be easier to obtain, while more specialized roles could require additional training or experience.

Common Search & ComparisonYesYes

The Dispatch Associate primarily manages communication and coordination of deliveries, often working in an office environment with dispatch software. In contrast, the Warehouse Associate handles physical tasks like inventory management and order fulfillment within a warehouse setting. While both roles support logistics operations, their daily responsibilities and work environments differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Dispatch Associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Dispatch Associate, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and basic office applications is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities help you manage fast-paced environments and coordinate effectively with drivers and clients. These skills ensure timely and accurate dispatching, efficient operations, and high customer satisfaction.

What is the highest paying dispatch job?

The highest paying dispatch jobs are often in specialized fields such as emergency services dispatchers, airline or freight dispatchers, and logistics managers, with salaries varying based on experience, certifications, and industry. Senior roles or those requiring advanced certifications and technical skills tend to offer higher compensation within dispatch-related careers.

How to start dispatcher with no experience?

To start as a dispatcher with no experience, focus on developing strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Entry-level positions often require a high school diploma or equivalent, and some companies provide on-the-job training; familiarity with dispatch software and a valid driver's license can be beneficial. Gaining relevant certifications or completing courses in logistics or transportation can also improve your chances.

What are some common challenges Dispatch Associates face, and how can they overcome them?

Dispatch Associates often encounter challenges such as managing high volumes of requests, adapting to last-minute schedule changes, and coordinating effectively with drivers and warehouse teams. Staying organized, using digital dispatching tools, and maintaining clear communication channels are key strategies for success. Proactively anticipating potential issues and keeping a calm, solution-oriented mindset can help Dispatch Associates manage stress and ensure timely deliveries.

Job description

About DESRI
DESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 13 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 85 renewable energy projects in 24 states.
At DESRI, our culture is grounded in rigorous analytics and thoughtful risk-taking, with a strong emphasis on creativity, intellectual curiosity, and continuous improvement. We operate with lean teams that prioritize efficiency and minimize unnecessary bureaucracy, enabling individuals to take ownership and move quickly. We value open, constructive dialogue and believe it leads to better outcomes. Above all, we are driven to go the extra mile and support one another, fostering a collaborative environment built on accountability, integrity, and care.
About the role
DESRI is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to join its team as an Asset Management Associate focused on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role provides the opportunity to participate in the development, acquisition, and ongoing management of utility-scale battery storage assets in an inclusive and engaging work environment.
As a member of the Asset Management team, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the operational and financial performance of DESRI's growing BESS portfolio. You will work closely with a collaborative team of asset managers in a dynamic and agile organization, contributing directly to portfolio optimization, grid reliability, and the transition to a more flexible and resilient energy system. This role offers an inclusive, collaborative, and engaging working environment.
What you'll do
As an Asset Management Associate, you will play a key role in the safe, reliable, and profitable operation of utility-scale battery energy storage assets. Responsibilities include managing asset-level financial performance, optimizing operational and dispatch strategies, monitoring contract compliance, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
You will:
  • Manage the day-to-day asset management of BESS projects, with accountability for availability, degradation management, warranty compliance, and lifecycle performance
  • Monitor and analyze battery performance metrics including state of charge, cycling behavior, round-trip efficiency, degradation trends, and availability
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance providers, integrators, OEMs, and monitoring platform vendors to diagnose and resolve operational issues, alarms, or equipment failures
  • Support and execute dispatch optimization strategies across market participation, tolling arrangements, or contracted revenue structures
  • Oversee revenue generation from energy, capacity, and ancillary services, while monitoring operating costs and budget adherence
  • Prepare asset-level financial reporting, forecasts, and variance analyses, identifying opportunities to enhance asset value and improve performance
  • Partner with finance and accounting teams to validate settlements, ensure accurate financial reporting, and maintain compliance with internal controls
  • Manage and monitor key contracts, including O&M agreements, long-term service agreements (LTSAs), warranties, interconnection agreements, and market participation contracts
  • Track compliance with performance guarantees, availability thresholds, degradation assumptions, safety requirements, and reporting obligations
  • Conduct regular site visits, inspections, and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Track and analyze KPIs to support strategies that maximize asset life, minimize downtime, and inform capital planning decisions
  • Stay current on BESS technology developments, market rules, regulatory changes, and safety standards to ensure compliance and identify optimization opportunities

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, renewable energy, business administration, or a related field required
  • Demonstrated experience in asset management, operations, project management, or a related role within energy, infrastructure, or power markets
  • Familiarity with battery energy storage systems is required and experience with grid services, power markets, or related technologies strongly preferred
  • Solid understanding of financial analysis, budgeting, and contract management
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical, commercial, and external stakeholder teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to travel quarterly to assigned assets, as well as for team and stakeholder meetings
  • At DESRI, we consider a wide range of factors to determine your compensation. We rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, location, skills, and experience. The expected annual base salary for this position is $90,000 to $130,000, depending on experience.
  • DESRI's compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus (guaranteed in the first year of hire), medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, paid time off, wellness reimbursement, family-building benefits, and a charitable gift-matching program.
