The Show Systems team helps to dream and create many of the magical moments that our guests enjoy. Our team is responsible for delivering world class Audio-Animatronic figures, show action equipment and special effects through their full lifecycle. We partner with various disciplines to help deliver quality products and our processes and tools help to take us from concept design to production and installation.

You will report to Executive Show Systems.

This is a Project Hire position without any guarantee of permanent placement.

What You Will Do:

Imaging Engineers are part of the Show Systems team within Walt Disney Imagineering's Design and Delivery team. The Senior Engineer will design and develop projection, display and Direct View LED systems in support of the show concepts and to deliver the visual media that meets show requirements. This may include being asked to Select Projectors, LED screens, optics and mounting systems as required to produce the required image size, resolution and brightness, color and contrast required for each show element.

  • Establish and develop technical standards, processes and vendors for projectors, screens, and lens and light sources

  • Work with creative/project team, Visual Effects team and Video Media design to define and produce an integrated system that meets the show requirements

  • Assist with the planning of attraction level design/production/procurement strategy and activities

  • Assist in the creation of estimates, budgets and schedules for projection systems

  • Assist with Mock-ups and proof of concepts of projection systems

  • Work with the Creative Technologies Group and R&D on next generation projection and Direct View LED systems

  • Establish and develop technical standards, processes and vendors for projectors, screens, lens and light sources

  • Lead Planning of attraction level design/production/procurement strategy and activities

  • Provide oversight and management of all production activities ensuring budget & schedule are met

  • Plan and Lead Projection System Mock-Ups

  • Invent new Projection and Display Techniques

  • Specify Custom Optics and Lens Systems

  • Confirm feasibility of high-risk projection systems

  • Work with Creative on new applications of projected media

  • Define required Mock-ups for projection applications

  • Design and develop multi-projector systems

  • Some travel domestic and international may be required

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • 7+ years of relevant professional experience

  • Proven expertise in designing projection layouts, including throw distances and formats

  • Skilled in image blending methods for seamless visuals across multiple displays

  • Experience with distortion correction to ensure accurate image presentation

  • Knowledge of image folding techniques for advanced projection applications

  • Hands-on experience with video and digital cinema projection systems

  • Familiarity with direct view LED display technologies

  • Ability to work with communication and automation software, including system controls

  • Understanding of lens selection principles for optimal projection performance

  • Experience with both front and rear projection screen systems

  • Proficient in 2D and 3D display technologies

  • Knowledge of legacy film projection systems, including 70mm, 35mm, and 16mm formats

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program required.

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $105,100.00 to $140,900.00 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The number of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay offered will consider internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, depending on the level and position offered.
