JOB DESCRIPTION:

When you join the Cardinal, a CNA brand, National Accounts Property, Wholesale team as an Excess & Surplus Underwriting Consultant, youare responsible forthe overall management, business development,analysisand monitoring ofa highly complexbook of business. You will be recognized as a technical expert in underwriting ground-up monoline policies. Under general management direction, you will work within broad limits of authority on assignments requiring a high degree of technical complexity and coordination.

This hybrid role will work4days per weekin the marketfrom our local officesinCalifornia, Arizona,Colorado,or Texas.

Asdeterminedby CNA and depending on the applicant's experience and/or qualifications, candidates may be hired into one of three Underwriter positions: Underwriting Specialist, Underwriting Consultant, or Underwriting Consulting Director. Typically, 3-10+ years of related experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of dutiesin accordance withdepartmental guidelines:

  • Works on highly complex underwriting risks employing diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability.Developspecialized endorsement language forhighly complexrisk.

  • Determinesappropriate pricingof complex risks for assignedbook of businessbased on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements and with little oversight needed from superiors.

  • Makes recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy.

  • Analyzes quality, quantity, and profitability ofhighly complexrisks underwritten; prepares and presents reports to management.

  • Markets products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community and makes field visits.

  • Develops andmaintainsagency and/or broker relationships with large producers within the assigned territory to reach positive and profitable outcomes on complex, high-riskbusiness.

  • Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industryactivityand trends. Mayparticipatein industry trade groups.

  • Mentors and guides less experienced underwriters andassistsin the development of underwriting training.

  • Utilizes advanced functionality in relevant CNA systems to perform day-to-day activities.

  • Responsible for special underwriting projects and presentations.

Education and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations preferred.

In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $72,000 to $141,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
