Job description


POSITION DESCRIPTION 

Title: Youth Development Professional 

Reports to: Site Supervisor

Status : Part-Time hourly up to 25 hours/ week, Non-Exempt



PRIMARY FUNCTION:

  • Under the general supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Youth Development Professional (YDP) plans, organizes, promotes, and implements a diversified program for Boys & Girls Club core program areas.


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Prepares youth for success

  • Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of BGCA Youth Development Outcomes.

  • Promotes and stimulates daily learning center program participation as well as participation in designated national and special event programs.

  • Orients new members to program area, special events, and opportunities as well as club safety, program and disciplinary rules.

  • Provides guidance and role modeling to members.

  • Works from trauma-informed, equity-based behavior modification support models.

  • Responds to feedback and redirection of leadership as part of our Continuous Quality Improvement guidelines in the moment and without push back. 


Program Development and Implementation

  • Implements, monitors and evaluates programs, services and activities for members. Develops and posts weekly and monthly program plans.

  • Monitors and evaluates programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members and quality in programs.

  • Recognizes Club members for program participation and achievement.

  • Maintains records to track attendance and participation.

  • Maintains Meal and Snack (CACFP point of service and clean up (if applicable).



Supervision

  • Maintains order and discipline of Club members.

  • Supervises and trains volunteers and program assistants.

  •  Ensures a productive work environment by participating in club leader meetings.

  • Monitors supply needs.

  • Keeps supplies neat and orderly.


Additional Responsibilities

  • May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Youth of the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other Club activities as necessary.

  • Consult with parents concerning member and Club issues.

  • Assume all other duties as assigned. 

Relationships

  • Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, and advise/counsel.

  • External: Maintains contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems, as directed by Club Director.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must possess a High School diploma or GED. 

  • Must submit three (3) professional references.

  • Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check, fingerprinting, and reference check prior to employment.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Skilled in art, music, STEM, technology (preferred)

  • Combined experience and/or formal training equivalent to 1- 2 years where there is:

  • Experience working with youth and knowledge of youth development.

  • Instruction of youth while creating engaging learning experiences.

  •  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  •  Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.

  •  Ability to work well with the public.

  •  Ability to plan and implement quality learning programs for youth.
