The Project Manager is the primary client and project owner, responsible for the successful execution of multiple public and/or private civil site design projects across Wisconsin. This role oversees the entire project lifecycle, from initial consultation and scope definition to final closeout. Key responsibilities include managing client relationships, ensuring financial profitability, delegating resources, preparing contracts and budgets, and maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

Client & Business Development

  • Serve as the primary client manager and point of contact, striving to build strong, long-term relationships and maintain current relationships with high-value clients.
  • Prepare comprehensive project proposals, including detailed scopes of services and accurate fee estimates.
  • Review customer specifications for accuracy and proactively communicate with the client regarding changes that may impact project scope or fees.
  • Prepare project billing/invoices and actively follow up with clients to ensure the timely payment of invoices.

Project & Financial Oversight

  • Create and monitor project scope, design schedules, budgets, and contracts to ensure profitability and on-time delivery.
  • Designate and manage project resources effectively, delegating work, monitoring progress, and reviewing completed deliverables for quality control.
  • Assess projects to reduce and actively manage risks, ensuring that sound risk management practices are consistently applied across all assignments.
  • Collaborate with the project team and stakeholders to coordinate and finalize all critical project decisions.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide effective mentorship and guidance to entry-level and mid-level project engineers on best practices in financial management, client communication, and overall project delivery.
  • Lead and motivate project teams in a fast-paced environment, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.


Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Civil Engineering Expertise: Strong understanding and direct experience with the civil site design process, allowing for effective delegation and technical review.
  • Advanced Project Management Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in project management principles, including resource allocation, scheduling, contract management, and financial oversight.
  • Leadership & Team Motivation: Proven ability to effectively lead, motivate, and mentor a team while fostering a positive and fast-paced environment.
  • Client Relationship Management: Superior people skills and the ability to build and sustain strong, long-term client relationships.
  • Communication & Negotiation: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for contract negotiation, proposal writing, team direction, and stakeholder reporting.
  • Technical Familiarity: General familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, and other engineering design tools sufficient for understanding team deliverables.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is required
  • Project management experience is required
  • 7+ years of civil engineering experience is required

License or Certification Requirements

  • Professional Engineer License (PE) for the State of Wisconsin is preferred

Physical Requirements

  • This position requires sitting at a desk and working at a computer for long period of time
  • Some work may include field work
  • This position requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds

PPE Requirements

  • Hi-Visibility clothing should be worn on job sites and in the field as necessary
