Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center is one of the largest and most respected long-term care and rehabilitation facilities in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and results-driven Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing team and clinical operations. This upcoming leadership opportunity is ideal for a nursing professional who is passionate about resident-centered care, team development, quality outcomes, and regulatory excellence.

The Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all nursing services while fostering a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, teamwork, and compassion. This key leadership role partners closely with the Administration team, Medical Director, and interdisciplinary departments to ensure the highest standards of resident care and regulatory compliance.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all nursing services and clinical operations.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care that promotes optimal resident outcomes.
  • Lead, mentor, coach, and support nursing managers, supervisors, and staff.
  • Foster positive employee relations and a culture of engagement, accountability, and retention.
  • Develop and oversee staff development, education, orientation, and competency programs.
  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing long-term care facilities.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated resident care and operational excellence.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, workforce planning, and labor management.
  • Review quality measures, clinical indicators, and survey readiness initiatives to drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of MDS assessments and individualized care plans.
  • Maintain a strong focus on resident satisfaction, clinical outcomes, risk management, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Utilize technology and data analytics to support clinical decision-making and operational performance.
Qualifications

Required

  • Active and unrestricted Virginia Registered Nurse (RN) License.
  • Previous long-term care, skilled nursing, or rehabilitation experience.
  • Previous supervisory and leadership experience in nursing operations.
  • Experience with employee relations, performance management, and team leadership.
  • Experience in staff development, training, and clinical education.
  • Exposure to or working knowledge of staffing, scheduling, and workforce management.
  • Experience using PCC (PointClickCare) electronic medical records.
  • Experience with MDS (Minimum Data Set) assessments, processes, and reimbursement-related documentation.
  • Experience communicating effectively with residentsโ€™ families and responsible parties, addressing concerns, providing clinical updates, and fostering trust.
  • Knowledge of and experience developing, implementing, and monitoring individualized resident care plans.
  • Strong clinical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or other healthcare-related bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience with Maple scheduling software and ADP Payroll and Human Resources modules, or similar workforce management platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, quality improvement initiatives, MDS-driven reimbursement processes, and best practices in long-term care nursing.
