Russell Herder is seeking an experienced, people-first Web Development Manager to lead our web development and User Experience (UX) team.

This is a hands-on leadership and executional role for someone who brings structure, sound technical judgment, mentorship, and momentum to a talented team of developers and UX professionals. You’ll help shape how we plan, build, launch, and maintain digital experiences for clients, while developing the people, processes, and technical foundation that make great work possible. You will work onsite Monday–Thursday; remote Fridays.

Lead, mentor, and support a team of web developers and UX professionals, providing clear priorities, accountability, and opportunities for growth.

Maintain your own roster of client projects and relationships, actively developing digital solutions as you supervise the work of others.

Guide projects from discovery through launch and ongoing maintenance, ensuring quality, timeliness, and strong client outcomes.

Routinely pressure-test client web assets, functionality and security, shielding them from downtime.

Provide technical leadership across website architecture, front-end development standards, responsive design, accessibility, performance, quality assurance, security, and maintenance.

Establish and uphold best practices for WCAG/ADA accessibility, SEO, analytics, website performance, documentation, and development workflows.

Partner with client services, strategy, creative, project management, and agency leadership to translate client goals into effective, integrated digital solutions.

Review work, guide technical problem-solving, and create consistent development and UX standards across projects.

Drive departmental revenue by keeping work on budget and moving in a timely and organized fashion.

Improve team processes for estimation, resourcing, documentation, quality assurance, and project delivery.

Help shape the agency’s digital and technology strategy, including consultation on hosted environments, external technology services, software, server space, and related infrastructure.

Stay current on CMS platforms, AI-enabled workflows, emerging digital tools, and technologies that can improve the team’s work, efficiency, and profitability.

Minimum of 7–10 years of web development and UX experience, including at least three years managing or formally mentoring a team.

Experience managing hosted website environments, such as WP Engine, as well as familiarity with broader technical infrastructure and vendor coordination.

Strong knowledge of responsive design, UX principles, accessibility standards, website performance, QA, SEO, and analytics, including Google Analytics.

Experience working with design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.

A practical understanding of AI tools and their application in digital execution, analysis, and workflow improvement.

The ability to balance strategic leadership with hands‑on, day-to-day problem-solving.

Strong project‑planning, communication, prioritization, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

A supportive leadership style: direct when needed, approachable always.

Agency experience preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, human‑centered design, or a related field preferred.
