The Director of Student Accounts leads and administers the operations of student accounts services. Provides strategic oversight for all customer service policies, objectives, and initiatives, ensuring a high standard of service delivery. Offers leadership and guidance for tuition and fee assessment, billing and receivables management, and payment processing. Serves as custodian of institutional funds. Ensures adherence to university, state, and federal regulations, as well as established accounting standards. Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). Reports to the Assistant Vice President for Finance.

This is an in-office position located on Tarleton State University's main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • 30% Manages all student account functions, ensuring exemplary customer service. Directs and oversees the unit's customer service policies, objectives, and initiatives. Develops service level standards focused on response time and issue resolution. Establishes policies and procedures that produce high quality customer service delivery that reflects industry best practices. Ensure delivery of a modern, digital-first student financial experience, including self-service tools, mobile access, and proactive communication strategies. Align customer service activities and initiatives to support and enhance the objectives of the university. Provides leadership and supervision of professional staff.

  • 20% Advocates for student account policies and processes that encourage financial wellness for ALL students. Collaborates with Enrollment Management, Student Engagement and Success, and Finance and Administration to develop, recommend, and implement policies and procedures to best serve the needs of the university and students. Oversees outreach initiatives and communications with the campus community and external audiences regarding financial programs and services to engage stakeholders in financial planning. Ensures financial counseling is available to all students and parents.

  • 20% Lead strategy, implementation, and optimization of student financial systems, including the Student Information System (SIS), billing and payment platforms, and related technologies. Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to improve efficiency, accuracy, and student experience. Lead process improvement initiatives leveraging automation technologies, workflow tools, and AI-enabled solutions to streamline billing, collections, and customer service operations.

  • 15% Oversees revenue collection across the university, ensuring compliance with applicable laws. Overall responsibility for all student and third-party billing, cashiering, collections, payment plans, financial aid disbursements and refunds. Maintains revenue accounts, bank accounts, student receivables, operating accounts, and fund balances. Prepares year-end reports and coordinates year-end account/journal entries with financial accounting.

  • 10% Ensure compliance with PCI DSS and data security standards related to payment processing and student financial information. Collaborate with IT and internal audit on system security and controls.

  • 5% Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to receivables, collections, student engagement, and operational efficiency. Utilize data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to inform decision-making and improve outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

Education - Bachelor's degree in Business or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience - Ten years of related experience including supervisory experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of - Demonstrated experience with student information systems, payment platforms, and data analytics/reporting tools. Knowledge of cash handling. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations pertaining to student loans.

Ability to - Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Effective leadership and customer service skills.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Salary Range:

The target base annual salary range is $93,760 up to $117,200 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
