Job description

As a Creative Director, you'll be an influential creative leader, building powerful multichannel direct response fundraising campaigns for our nonprofit clients. You will develop digital-forward creative campaigns that touch hearts and inspire action for great causes. You'll provide direction and copy for audience-driven direct response campaigns across channels-email, digital, display, social, and more. You'll come to the table with strategies, ideas, direction, innovation, and recommendations that produce stellar results for our clients to help extend the impact of their constituents.

You must be an experienced copywriter, proven leader, effective communicator, and exceptional motivator with a track record of building strong teams and client relationships and developing high-performing work. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer and demonstrate fluency in providing direction across both copy and art-translating KPIs and audience insights into powerful creative, and messaging reflective of data-driven insights, brand strategies, and direct response fundraising best practices.

Your Impact

  • Lead the copy and creative vision for integrated, multichannel direct response campaigns that support client goals and maximize results.
  • Develop and champion big ideas, concepts, messaging, tone, voice, and positioning grounded in audience insights, strategy, brand, and fundraising objectives.
  • Provide clear, actionable creative direction to copywriters and art/design partners throughout the campaign lifecycle, ensuring the work is strategically aligned and creatively cohesive.
  • Serve as a hands-on creative leader who can write, concept, edit, and elevate work while maintaining a high standard of creative excellence.
  • Partner with art and design leadership to develop integrated creative concepts in which copy and visual ideas work together to create a compelling audience experience.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of three direct reports, providing coaching, feedback, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Present creative strategies and concepts to clients and internal stakeholders, building confidence and enthusiasm around the work.
  • Partner closely with strategy, account, production, development, and other agency teams to deliver integrated work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen creative strategy and execution through testing, cultural and digital trends, AI, emerging technology, and innovation.
  • Contribute to new business opportunities by developing creative concepts, strategies, and presentation materials.

Your Profile

  • 10+ years of professional copywriting and creative development experience for direct response fundraising in an agency environment (for nonprofits preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Advertising, English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Fine Arts, Visual Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Proven experience as a copy-focused creative leader, with a portfolio demonstrating exceptional conceptual thinking, copywriting, and results-oriented creative.
  • Proven people-management experience, including hiring, coaching, mentoring, developing, and managing creative professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience developing integrated campaigns for national brands and/or complex organizations.
  • Strong client-facing experience, including presenting creative concepts, strategies, and recommendations to clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Deep knowledge of direct response principles, including offer-focused, insight-driven creative, messaging, and design.
  • Experience developing, writing, and interpreting creative briefs, translating strategy, audience insights, and business objectives into clear creative direction and compelling concepts.
  • Exceptional ability to translate audience insights, data, strategy, and complex information into clear, compelling copy and creative concepts.
  • Strong understanding of how copy and art/design work together to create cohesive, integrated campaigns; experience providing direction across both disciplines is highly valued.
  • Experience working within established brand guidelines while finding opportunities to evolve and strengthen creative.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, critical-thinking, and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience working with project management platforms and workflows.
  • High-level proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office, including Word and PowerPoint.
  • Mac proficiency.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with nonprofit, charitable, advocacy, education, association, political, or other purpose-driven organizations.
  • Experience with specific project management platforms such as Workfront, Basecamp, or Asana.
  • Experience using AI and emerging technologies to develop, test, or enhance creative work.
