Job description

This position is for the summer season. The ideal candidate will be available from May 1 to Oct 1, but the start and end dates are negotiable.
Summary:
Responsible for the following aspects of the Lawn and Tennis Department, which include but are not limited to planning and teaching of private and group lessons, collecting and analyzing data from our Smart Court to improve customized player development, assist with accurate record keeping, data gathering and analysis of Tennis, Pickleball and Croquet activity for departmental reports, organizing, forming and tracking of games for members, booking courts and lessons, contributing to the Ocean Reef Club Press and all other Tennis & Games Center literature, daily court maintenance, organizing and marketing tournaments, round robins and special events related to Tennis and Pickleball, and stringing and re-griping of racquets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to the following duties and responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Responsible for the following aspects of the Lawn & Tennis Department, which includes but is not limited to:
Technical:
  • Providing dynamic and progressive tennis lessons to members and guests, while maintaining time for all other duties.
  • Assisting with accurate record keeping, data gathering and analysis of Tennis, Pickleball and Croquet activity
  • Assist with tracking, analyzing and charting monthly summary of lessons taught, court utilization, racquets sold, event and tournament sign ups, etc.
  • Collecting data from the Tennis & Games Center Smart Court to provide players with detailed performance feedback and personalized recommendations based on their activity data in order to enhance player development
  • Assist with analyzing member satisfaction survey responses and implementing any necessary changes to improve member satisfaction as a department
  • Organizing and planning games for members and guest
  • Tracking and reporting match play scores organized by staff (i.e. league play, tournaments)
  • Maintaining daily records of all tennis fees, lessons, and retail charges, and accurately submit them on a daily basis
  • Providing Club Membership with effective communication and promotion of all Tennis & Games Center events and activity, through effective utilization of existing communication channels and mediums.
  • Writing weekly articles for the Ocean Reef Press and contribute necessary content for the department's email communication with the membership
  • Assisting with the composition of biweekly e-blasts
  • Assisting with the preparation of the department's budget, tracking expenses, and analyzing the forecast vs. the actual budget from month to month
  • Tracking current business metrics of the department (court usage, lesson count, tournament participation) with the willingness to add and track different data for future reports
  • Assisting with the upkeep of the building through work orders with the Engineering and Housekeeping departments
  • Taking ownership of the Men's Tennis Programming through continued communication and execution of established programming and events
  • Stringing and re-gripping rackets for the membership
  • Keeping oneself knowledgeable and current on the latest developments in Tennis, Pickleball, teaching techniques, and the application of smart court technology and data analysis to improve player development strategies.

General:
  • Maintaining a positive relationship with Members/Guests, always being courteous, friendly, happy, outgoing, and professional.
  • Work closely with the Director of Racquet Sports other members of the staff, maintaining a positive rapport with coworkers as well as management.
  • Actively solicit feedback from the members and guests frequenting the tennis center, and report to the Director of Racquet Sports.
  • Promoting Pro Shop sales, along with game matching, guest registration, and court reservations, which includes answering the phone in a polite and professional manner.
  • Taking ownership and conduct regular inspections of the court facilities, seeing that all areas are properly maintained by staff.
  • Observing all situations for safety
  • Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of all emergency procedures.
  • Active demonstration and implementation of the ORC Promises; Demonstrate the ORC way in all aspects of this positions i.e. hygiene, uniforms, etc.

• Be able to make appropriate decisions when the Director of Racquet Sports is not available.
  • Assist as needed in the overall Lawn & Tennis facilities and operations, conducting the necessary maintenance, upkeep and records, as requested by the Director of Racquet Sports.
  • Any other task or job that is in need of being performed, to maintain the highest quality of service to our members at the Tennis Center.

Qualifications:

  • 2-year background in club or resort environment or comparable experience
  • College level player preferably with UTR of 10
  • Ability to create new programs needed to streamline and rejuvenate department
  • Ability to effectively communicate tennis ideas and principles to members and guests
  • Outgoing, enthusiastic personality a must.

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma required.
Language:
Must be able to comprehend the English language in order to communicate with Members, Guests, Associates and fully understand job assignments.

Attendance, Appearance and Conduct:
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Ocean Reef Club from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Associates with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry and report deadlines, associate may be required to work varying schedules to meet the business needs of the Club and report deadlines.
Vacation and personal time must be approved by the Director of Racquet Sports and must meet the needs of the Department.
Proper grooming is required by all associates and is described in detail in the Associates Handbook. Associates should review this policy and make sure that at all times they present themselves for shifts looking clean, neat and professional.
As a condition of employment, all associates agree to fully comply with Ocean Reef Club rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of Club facilities. Associates who violate Club rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
