Job description
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Business Development will lead the growth strategy for Preferred Vascular Group (PVG), with responsibility for increasing physician utilization, surgical volume, revenue, and the overall scale of the practice across the Surgery Partners network.
The Director reports to the SVP & Market CEO and maintains a dotted-line relationship with the SVP and VP of Market Growth and Business Development for Surgery Partners. The role partners closely with PVG physicians, ASC and facility leadership, operations, and enterprise stakeholders to identify and execute growth opportunities.
The ideal candidate is a strategic, commercially minded healthcare leader who can assess existing capabilities, build scalable growth infrastructure, develop strong physician and market relationships, and translate opportunities into measurable results.
GROWTH LEVERS
• Vascular Access Development Program - Optimize, professionalize, and scale the existing Access Coordinator program to strengthen and expand the referral networks with community providers and groups.
• Service Line Expansion - Expand the services performed by existing PVG physicians, including embolization and other complementary procedural services.
• Facility & Surgical Asset Growth - Increase volume at existing Surgery Partners facilities through new providers, additional service lines, strategic partnerships, and bolt-on acquisitions.
• PVG Practice Expansion - Partner with organizational leadership to expand PVG into new geographies and facilities through physician employment, 1099 arrangements, practice affiliations, and other alignment models.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Optimize, Professionalize & Scale the Vascular Access Development Program
• Assess the current Access Coordinator program - team structure, market coverage, workflows, referral development practices, and performance - and identify opportunities to strengthen and scale it.
• Build the processes, tools, technology, and performance infrastructure needed for a consistent, measurable, and scalable business development function.
• Define activity, pipeline, productivity, and outcome metrics that measure individual and program performance and demonstrate impact on encounters, volume, and revenue.
• Partner with corporate teams to implement CRM methodology within existing platform to incorporate PVG access coordinators account activity, targets, and performance metrics.
• Standardize and scale market planning, referral-source development, opportunity tracking, and follow-up while preserving the field-based, relationship-driven nature of the program.
• Lead, coach, and develop the Access Coordinator team, setting clear expectations, market priorities, performance goals, and accountability.
• Evaluate market coverage and resource allocation to keep the team focused on the highest-value opportunities across PVG's footprint.
• Partner with Marketing and Operations on targeted campaigns, tools, and resources that increase program effectiveness.
2. Expand PVG Physician Service Lines
• Identify opportunities to expand the services performed by existing PVG physicians beyond core vascular access, including embolization and other complementary procedural service lines.
• Partner with physicians and facility leadership to assess clinical, operational, reimbursement, and market feasibility.
• Develop business cases and implementation plans for new services.
• Establish volume and financial targets and track performance following implementation.
3. Grow Existing Facilities & Optimize Surgical Assets
• Partner with clinic admins, PVG leadership, and physicians to assess facility-level capacity, physician utilization, market dynamics, and competitive positioning to identify incremental growth.
• Increase surgical volume through physician recruitment, new service lines, strategic partnerships, and the introduction of additional providers into existing facilities.
• Evaluate bolt-on acquisitions, partnerships, and other strategic opportunities that expand PVG volume or capabilities.
• Partner with Surgery Partners Operations, M&A, Finance, Legal, and Clinical teams to evaluate and execute opportunities.
• Work closely with clinic admins, PVG leadership, and market leaders to develop facility-specific growth plans with measurable volume and financial objectives.
4. Expand the PVG Practice Across the Enterprise
• Identify markets and facilities where PVG can provide additional physician coverage and generate incremental volume.
• Partner with the SVP & Market CEO to develop opportunities to employ or contract with vascular and interventional providers through PVG.
• Build relationships with prospective physicians and physician groups and develop compelling alignment strategies.
• Create market-entry plans covering physician recruitment, referral development, facility alignment, and operational requirements.
• Support a scalable framework for evaluating and launching PVG in new markets and track the performance and economics of new physician relationships.
5. Strategic Leadership
• Maintain a pipeline of high-value growth opportunities across physicians, facilities, service lines, and markets.
• Prioritize opportunities based on market potential, physician alignment, operational feasibility, and financial return.
• Build financial and volume models and business cases to support growth investments.
• Present growth strategies, opportunities, and performance to PVG and Surgery Partners leadership.
• Maintain reporting and strategic actions on encounters, cases, revenue, and profitability across growth initiatives.
• Collaborate across Operations, Finance, Marketing, Managed Care, Legal, M&A, and Clinical teams to execute growth initiatives.
