Job description

Purpose:
Are you a strategic HR leader who excels at navigating complex employee relations matters and developing talent strategies that drive business results? We are seeking an experienced HR Director to partner with executive leadership, leverage workforce insights to solve business challenges, support organizational effectiveness, and lead change initiatives that enhance employee and organizational performance.

Under general direction the HR Director will provide HR leadership and functional guidance to a designated customer base. The HR Director will execute employee relations and/or recruitment initiatives that enable achievement of goals and objectives. This person will have global HR oversight of their assigned business unit(s).

In this role, you will build strong partnerships across the organization, lead HR operations and talent initiatives, champion employee engagement and inclusion, and coach leaders through organizational change. As a trusted advisor and change agent, you will translate business priorities into practical people solutions that drive performance, continuous improvement, and a positive employee experience.
Responsibilities:

  • Utilize HR and business analytics to drive data-based solutions. Supervise the complex qualitative and quantitative analyses of financial and workforce data. Create, gather, analyze, scrub, and share human resource and business indicators to identify areas of concern or improvement. Analyze trends over differing data sets and over differing points in time. Make recommendations to address deficiencies and better support the business and HR. Report outcomes to all applicable stakeholders and customers and share best practices.
  • Continuously hone skills and upgrade business acumen, to stay abreast of industry trends. Demonstrate capabilities and professional knowledge, and the ability to assimilate new knowledge.
  • Effectively communicate expectations with business, operational, and HR partners while promoting a One Team collaborative atmosphere in which all functions of HR work together as one team.
  • Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Take a proactive approach to anticipate and solve issues. Engage leaders on change management and by giving them the tools to communicate efficiently and effectively with their staff to achieve buy in.
  • Lead and manager local and/or organization wide committees that focus on projects that move the organization forward and toward meeting organization goals. Prepare reports on the end product and results, the benefits of the output, and how to put it into action.
  • Assist senior leaders with improving the performance of the organization. This includes, but is not limited to, recommendation of coaching, mentoring, and training for leaders to assist them in improving their ability to manage and lead the organization, and in developing their staff.
  • Oversee operations of the HR department (employee relations or recruitment, or both). Ensure that all day-to-day tasks are being handled in an appropriate and efficient manner. Drive staff to be proactive and solution based and motivate them to look for both short- and long-term solutions.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with senior business and human resource partners to assess business and human resources needs and develop, lead, and institute tactical plans to address challenges in both the short and long term, within UPMC and within the broader health care environment.
  • Drive and champion inclusion efforts and cultural improvement initiatives within the customer base. Recognize areas of need and devise strategies and plans to lead changes in these areas. Recognize, lead, and create employee engagement initiatives to assist in allowing all employees to have a positive employee experience at their workplace.
  • Establish and foster a professional climate, dedicated to supporting the mission, vision, values, and goals of the organization by providing a value-added service and while providing world class service delivery.
  • Be a change agent. Utilize solution-based thinking that leads to projects and committee formation to implement these ideas. Chair, manage, and lead these projects to support organization-wide business and HR transformation initiatives. Contribute to the development of these strategies to support implementation of these initiatives. Offer participation to a wide array of talent within the organization and achieve buy-in on participation, goals, and conclusions, and implementation from all applicable stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Management or a closely related field and at least 7 years of human resources experience with five years experience in specialty area (such as ER, Recruitment, etc.) and four years of prior progressive leadership experience required.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office with Oracle experience preferred.
  • This position requires an experienced HR professional and with demonstrated ability to execute HR and talent programs and processes to support the business.
  • Ability to lead HR and talent initiatives across a complex organization.
  • Excellent consulting skills, deep human resource knowledge/expertise, client management skills, conflict management skills, business acumen, learning agility, independent judgment, and high work ethic.
  • It also requires proven success at developing strong trusting relationships in order to influence others, gain their support and achieve results and a commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • PHR, SPHR certification, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP certification or UPMC HCI Strategic HR Business Partner Certification required within the first 12 months of hire for external candidates.
  • Internal applicants within UPMC HR are required to have the certification requirements in place to be considered for promotional opportunities.
