Job description

Bolt Graphics is a semiconductor startup based in Sunnyvale, CA building the fastest and most efficient graphics processors (GPUs) for high performance computing (HPC), Rendering, and Gaming. Our technology enables creatives to render photo realistically in real-time, researchers to discover new materials, and designers to simulate state of the art products and buildings before they're built. We pride ourselves on our first principles approach to solving problems. We are energized by our mission to reduce the barrier of entry for content creation and consumption. Our goal is to enable everyone to easily create, simulate and consume immersive experiences as vividly as they can imagine them.
Our Values
  • Be Fearless: Unmute yourself. Test boundaries and get proven right.
  • Remain Adaptable: Stay comfortable in a continuously changing world. If you're wrong, concede and move on.
  • Educate Your Ego: Selflessly collaborate towards our shared purpose.

About the role:
We are looking for a screenwriter to join our creative team to write and assist in development of a 3D animated short film along with supporting content. You will be working closely with the CMO, Creative Director, and internal studio to write and develop a ~5 minute short film based on a story outline. This is a two (2) month contract role with potential to extend based on business need.
What you'll do:
  • Brainstorm, outline, write, and assist in development of a 3D animated short film
  • Research relevant topics surrounding the setting, characters and themes of the story including film inspiration
  • Create character briefs/breakdowns, descriptions for sets/environments, articulate the theme and tone, and provide other written work supporting the script itself
  • Write for supplementary content surrounding the short film, including mini sketches with the film's characters for social media and behind the scenes 'making-of' content
  • Craft an engaging story that leverages stylized animation to convey important adult themes
  • Integrate Bolt's values into story messages in a subtle way, conveying what the company believes is important without jeopardizing the story as a standalone art piece or compromising its authenticity
  • Complete a final polished script to act as the backbone for animation production and pre-production
  • Work with the creative director and storyboard artists to help visualize your story during the animation pre-production process

Qualifications:
  • A strong portfolio of writing that demonstrates impactful storytelling for adult audiences
  • Experience writing short stories for original IPs
  • A developed sense of humor and ability to inject modern, adult comedy beats into emotional, hard-hitting stories
  • Knowledge of and experience with the 3D animation production process
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across the various departments of film development and production
  • A motivated storyteller who wants to make something new, authentic, and impactful, and see the story through to animation production rather than developing it in a black box

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4-7 years of experience writing for short form narrative content
  • Experience writing specifically for animated feature or short film
  • Experience writing for short form content for social media (character sketches)
  • Experience working on product launches and/or with startups
  • Basic knowledge of computer graphics and graphics technology

Remote/Hybrid: travel required for major events, preference is for a candidate in California.
We currently do not offer sponsorship or relocation for this role.
Compensation Range: $60/hour (California). This range represents the anticipated base pay for this role based on California standards; the final offer may vary based on qualifications, experience, and location. Contract role for two (2) months with potential to extend based on business needs.
Benefits:
  • Medical, Dental, & Vision - 100% covered premiums
  • Equity - Stock Options
  • 401(k) match
  • WFH Hardware
  • Generous Paid Time Off
