Controls Field Service Technician - Atlanta, GA
Our client is a Engineering Design and Commissioning Company that has a national footprint and specializes in MEP / Controls and Critical Facilities Design. They provide design, commissioning, consulting and management expertise in the Critical Facilities Space. A fully competent Controls Field Technician - Applies an intensive and diversified knowledge of complete Controls and Building automation systems platforms such as EPMS (Electrical and Power Monitoring Systems), BAS Systems (Building Automation Systems), or BMS System (Building Monitor Systems) in a data center or industrial environment - testing and operations. Responsible for programming, integration, implementation commissioning, maintaining and providing emergency support on critical controls systems at customers' sites within their respective regional area.

They will troubleshoot, install, and make upgrades to existing automation systems for power and cooling systems in a live, mission-critical environment. They will assist in complete startup, commissioning, and validation procedures of these systems. They will collaborate with the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering / Design teams, Software Development teams, Project Managers, Construction Contractors, Equipment Vendors, Field Techs and Site Operations teams to ensure the reliability, proper operations, acceptance of new and modified installations, automations and software solutions. Applies an intensive and diversified knowledge of complete BMS, BAS, EPMS - coding, testing and operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and monitor subcontractors (onsite and offsite) including scheduling, resource management and coordination of construction and start-up services as needed. Construction trades generally include various electrical, mechanical and equipment suppliers.
  • Install and wire BAS controllers and field devices including low voltage cable terminations
  • Installation Coordination of BAS / HVAC Controls Systems
  • Plan site activities for your team including organize job site materials, logistics, inventory, tools storage and security / access
  • Lead installation teams on daily and weekly meetings
  • Support the development and execution of additional services through change orders
  • Cutover panels and systems in retrofit projects
  • Develop and Implement Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for site activities
  • Provide input to project team on developing RFIs, estimating and takeoffs for proposals
  • Performs commissioning focused design reviews, prepares commissioning test procedures and reports, coordinates and oversees on-site testing, Startup, Commissioning and Closeout of BAS / HVAC Controls Systems
  • Assist software lead with pre-functional and functional testing
  • Execute troubleshooting of BAS systems including corrective actions
  • Participate in commissioning efforts with external stakeholders
  • Analyze system operation, work with project team to demonstrate system operation and verify consistency with the contracted scope of work
  • Perform QA / QC of BAS and integrated systems using BAS software tools
  • Provide installation inspections and other closeout duties to ensure customer acceptance
  • Provide markups for shop drawings to document as-built conditions
  • Communicate regularly with subcontractors, project managers, clients and commissioning agents on project progress
  • Document and track issues and out of scope efforts
  • Autonomous in day-to-day work with being given high level instruction on projects or assignments
  • Discuss with technical support problems related to maintenance or operation of equipment
  • Attend project bid walks, engineering surveys, BAS audits, etc
  • QA/QC peer reviews for projects which candidate is not the engineer
  • Optimize workflow and deliverables by developing templates, standards, automations, etc.
  • Communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders, subcontractors, project managers, AEs and commissioning agents on project progress
  • Assist / Develop all project communication and reporting, weekly progress reports, etc.

Requirements:

  • Needs to be located in Pacific Northwest
  • Open to traveling to job sites in the region - 75% of the time
  • Critical Facilities / Data Center experience a must
  • Experience with Distech Controls and Tridium Niagara BAS Platforms highly preferred
  • Preferably 3-8+ years experience with BMS /BAS Controls
  • Experience with any of the following systems (JCI, Metasys, Siemens, Honeywell, Automated Logic) a plus
  • PLC / ALC Experience
  • Experience with critical HVAC equipment (Chillers, Air Handlers, CRAC / CRAH units, Boilers, etc.)
  • Requires knowledge of equipment manufacturer's specifications
  • Ability to interpret AE construction drawings, BAS shop drawings, manufacturers wiring diagrams, standards documentation, submittals and product data sheets
  • Ability to follow company and site safety requirements
  • Must be able to complete Field Service Reports and Assignments accurately and within a timely manner
  • Analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence
  • Candidate must be willing to work nights & weekends when necessary
  • MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Previous experience in the Military / Military veterans in all branches that have experience with Electrical / Mechanical is a huge plus (Navy nukes- EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, etc.)
  • Requires excellent verbal, written communication skills & customer relation skills
  • Ability to work independently and resourceful with good initiatives
  • Client facing experience and at times serve as primary point of client contact on various projects
  • Ability to successfully work independently; Self Starter and should prioritize well
  • Proactive, resourceful, delegator and a multitasker
  • Exceptional organizational skills with an attention to detail
