Job description

Mechanical Resource Group, an HVAC, hydronics, sales, and service organization, is seeking an HVAC Controls Engineer with expert-level experience in Distech Controls and the Niagara N4 platform. This role is responsible for designing, programming, integrating, and commissioning complex HVAC control systems and serving as a technical authority across projects.

Position Overview

The HVAC Controls Engineer will lead the design and implementation of complex HVAC control systems, with a primary focus on Distech Controls and the Niagara Framework (N4). This role involves owning system architecture decisions, providing technical leadership across projects, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring all engineering work meets MRG quality and performance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership in Design and Implementation

    • Design and implement complex HVAC control systems using Distech Controls and Niagara N4, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

  • Mentorship

    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to develop controls engineers and programmers, reinforcing engineering standards and best practices.

  • Schematic Creation

    • Develop and review detailed control schematics, risers, and layouts to support accurate installation and commissioning.

  • Collaboration

    • Work closely with project managers, field technicians, and engineers to translate designs into executable systems.

  • Quality Assurance

    • Ensure all engineering deliverables meet MRG quality standards from design through final system turnover.

  • Project Oversight

    • Support field execution and project delivery in coordination with Controls Project Management.

  • Integration Leadership

    • Lead or support high-level system integrations, networking strategy, and third-party coordination.

  • Customer Engagement

    • Provide advanced technical support, customer training, and system walkthroughs to ensure a successful handoff.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience as a Controls Engineer supporting commercial or institutional HVAC systems

  • Expert-level experience with Distech Controls (ECLYPSE / ECB platforms)

  • Expert-level experience with Niagara N4 including station architecture, drivers, licensing, and security

  • Strong system-level troubleshooting and integration experience

  • Knowledge of BACnet MS/TP, BACnet/IP, Modbus, and networked BAS architecture

  • Deep understanding of commercial HVAC equipment (AHUs, VAVs, boilers, chillers, etc.)

  • Ability to read, interpret, and review construction documents and blueprints

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer and team interaction

  • Self-directed, accountable, and customer-focused mindset
