Job description

Position Summary
The Vascular Care Group is seeking a Director, Clinical Information Systems, to lead the planning, governance, and optimization of our clinical technology ecosystem, including EMR, PACS/DICOM, patient intake software, and other key systems supporting our outpatient vascular centers.
As an Epic Community Connect organization affiliated with major hospital partners, The Vascular Care Group operates in a shared EMR environment that requires strong collaboration, integration, management, and governance across multiple entities. Additionally, we operate on Athenahealth, requiring unified leadership across both EMR platforms to ensure consistency in workflows, reporting, and compliance.
This leadership role requires extensive experience in bridging hospital and ambulatory settings, with a proven ability to align clinical technology with organizational strategy, regulatory requirements, and clinician efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the long-term roadmap for EMR and clinical applications across TVCG's multi-site outpatient network.
  • Epic Community Connect Management: Serve as TVCG's primary liaison with hospital affiliates and Epic host organizations, overseeing governance participation, integration, and change management.
  • Athenahealth Oversight: Lead the strategy, optimization, and support of Athenahealth across applicable sites, ensuring interoperability, consistent workflows, and data alignment with the broader clinical systems ecosystem.
  • Clinical Systems Oversight: Manage all clinical systems, including EMR, PACS/RIS, patient intake, and ancillary platforms supporting patient intake, imaging, and care coordination.
  • Interoperability & Integration: Direct efforts to enhance data exchange across systems (Epic, Athenahealth, PACS, labs, imaging, HIEs) using HL7, FHIR, and other interoperability standards.
  • Operational Excellence: Partner with clinical and administrative leadership to ensure technology supports care quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, CMS).
  • Team Leadership: Manage a high-performing team of analysts and application specialists responsible for operations, upgrades, and end-user support.
  • Vendor & Partner Management: Oversee relationships with EMR and clinical application vendors, including Epic host organizations, Athenahealth, Phreesia, and PACS providers.
  • Change & Optimization: Drive workflow improvement and clinician satisfaction through data-driven enhancements and best practice adoption.
  • Compliance & Security: Collaborate with Information Security and Compliance teams to maintain cybersecurity and privacy standards across all clinical applications.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Health Informatics, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in healthcare IT leadership with oversight of EMR and clinical applications in hospital and/or ambulatory environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with Epic Community Connect management, governance participation, and downstream integration management.
  • Strong background in Athenahealth administration, optimization, and multi-practice deployment.
  • Proven track record in multi-site EMR strategy, interoperability, and vendor coordination.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • In-depth understanding of clinical workflows, healthcare compliance frameworks, and data governance.

Preferred Experience
  • Prior leadership within specialty or procedural-based outpatient organizations (vascular, surgical, or cardiology settings).
  • Experience coordinating between multiple EMR systems in a growing healthcare network.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and performance reporting within Epic and Athena environments.
  • Knowledge of PACS and imaging workflow integration in ambulatory settings, and patient intake software such as Phreesia is a plus.
