Job description


The Staff Clinical Ethics Consultant provides ethics consultation services at a multi-hospital, quaternary care system by delivering clinical ethics consultation as part of a group practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Clinical ethics consultation service weekday-only call responsibilities (no evenings/weekends/holidays).
  • Travel to Main Campus and regional hospitals across Northeast Ohio as needed.
  • Maintain internal documentation of clinical ethics consultations for database records and contribute to QI/QA efforts.
  • Mentor and supervise bioethics fellows and rotating trainees.
  • Provide expert input on clinical ethics issues across the Cleveland Clinic Enterprise and at the local, regional, and national levels.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to:

  • Provide high-quality ethics consultation services on a fast-paced, high-volume, team-based service.
    • Facilitate and lead meetings, utilize appropriate techniques for conflict engagement, and build consensus
    • Collaborate professionally with members of multidisciplinary clinical teams and leadership, engaging multiple points of view and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the Center's mission of innovation in clinical ethics, including quality assessment and improvement.
  • Uphold standards of professionalism and excellence.
  • Commit to professional growth and development.
  • Provide evidence of successful engagement in relationship-centered collaboration, teambuilding, and patient-centered care, and the ability to work collaboratively and inclusively to inspire and motivate others.
  • Practice consistently with the characteristics central to Cleveland Clinic and the Center for Bioethics' values: honesty, integrity, humility, courage, tolerance for ambiguity, open-mindedness, balanced judgment and demeanor, accountability, and good stewardship of resources.

Credentials/qualifications:

Required:

  • MD/DO, JD, PhD, international equivalent, or field-specific terminal degree.
  • Acute care clinical ethics consultation experience.

Preferred:

  • Successful completion of a post-graduate clinical ethics fellowship.
  • Possibility of job share opportunity.

The salary range displayed in this job posting reflects the anticipated salary range for new physicians hired into full-time (100% FTE) positions. This range is generally aligned with or below the 50th percentile of nationally recognized compensation benchmarks by specialty. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined in accordance with fair market value, considering factors such as professional experience, clinical expertise, board certification, work history, and FTE. This stated range excludes the value of Cleveland Clinic's comprehensive benefits package, which includes healthcare, dental, vision, retirement, and other offerings.

Pay Range

Minimum salary: $103,000

Maximum salary: $191,500
