Job description

Note: The compensation range noted above represents the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range.
The Behavioral Health Director is responsible for the strategic, operational, clinical, and financial leadership of a 54-bed inpatient behavioral health service line consisting of:
  • 16-Bed Adult Behavioral Health Unit
  • 20-Bed Adult Behavioral Health Unit
  • 18-Bed Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit

The Director provides oversight and leadership for all inpatient behavioral health operations, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and financial performance. The Director collaborates with physicians, nursing leadership, therapists, and hospital administration to achieve organizational goals and optimize patient outcomes.
The Director has direct and indirect oversight of Nursing, Mental Health Counselors, Behavioral Health Specialists, Occupational Therapy staff, and other interdisciplinary team members across all behavioral health units. Provide direct oversight and leadership of the Behavioral Health Admission Team
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direct all daily operations of the inpatient behavioral health units.
  • Ensure effective patient flow, admission processes, discharge planning, and throughput management.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, strategic initiatives, and performance improvement plans.
  • Monitor unit census and capacity management to maximize occupancy while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with referral sources, emergency departments, case management, and physician providers to ensure timely admissions and appropriate patient placement.
  • Maintain a therapeutic environment that promotes patient recovery and staff engagement.
  • Lead all quality improvement initiatives across behavioral health services.
  • Develop, monitor, and report key quality indicators and performance metrics.

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and accrediting body requirements, including:
  • DNV
  • CMS regulations
  • DMH
  • Hospital policies and procedures

Qualifications
Education: Master's Degree in Nursing
Licenses/Registrations: Current RN license within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Experience: Minimum of five years of experience in psychiatric nursing leadership.
