Job description

Location: Westerville, OH / Greater Columbus Metro, OH 

Reports to: VP, Global Real Estate 

Position Summary 

The Director, Global Capital Projects is a senior leadership role responsible for owning and leading Vertiv's enterprise-wide capital planning and project delivery function across a diverse global real estate portfolio, including manufacturing facilities, R&D laboratories, warehouses, and office environments. 
This role provides end-to-end accountability for a $200M+ global capital portfolio, including capital planning, financial governance, organizational design, and execution strategy. The Director will establish and lead a scalable Global Capital Projects operating model, integrating internal capabilities with strategic third-party delivery partners to ensure consistent, high-quality execution worldwide. 
A key mandate of this role is to build and operationalize the global capital project function from the ground up-establishing a global PMO, hiring and leading regional project teams, and implementing standardized governance, tools, and processes-while concurrently owning the execution of an active global capital portfolio through both direct leadership and matrixed resources. 
This role operates at the intersection of strategy, finance, and execution, requiring strong executive engagement, cross-functional leadership, and the ability to translate business priorities into disciplined capital deployment. 

Key Responsibilities 

Enterprise Capital Planning & Governance 

  • Own and lead the global capital planning process across all Business Units and Functions 
  • Develop and manage a multi-year capital investment strategy and roadmap 
  • Oversee a $200M+ global capital budget including planning, forecasting, and tracking 
  • Establish governance for capital prioritization, ROI evaluation, and approvals 
  • Partner with Finance and ELT to align capital allocation with strategy 

Organizational Leadership & Capability Building 

  • Design and implement a global capital project delivery organization 
  • Establish a scalable Global PMO framework & present organizational proposals to key executives for approval.  
  • Hire and lead regional capital project/program managers 
  • Drive talent development and performance management 

Global Delivery Model & Strategic Partnerships 

  • Define global delivery strategy leveraging third-party PM firms 
  • Develop and negotiate MSAs, pricing models, and terms 
  • Establish KPIs, SLAs, and governance frameworks 
  • Manage strategic partner relationships and performance 

Capital Project Execution & Oversight 

  • Provide executive oversight of global capital projects 
  • Lead high-priority and complex projects as needed 
  • Ensure consistency in governance, reporting, and risk management 
  • Drive continuous improvement in delivery performance 

Program Development & Operational Excellence 

  • Develop tools, templates, and reporting dashboards 
  • Establish global project playbooks and lifecycle standards 
  • Ensure scalability and practicality of solutions 
  • Integrate ESG and digital transformation initiatives 

Cross-Functional Leadership 

  • Partner with Real Estate, Facilities, EHS, Procurement, Finance, IT, and Operations 
  • Advise senior leadership on capital strategy and risks 
  • Align corporate strategy with site-level execution 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field; Master's or PMP preferred 
  • 12-15+ years of global capital project experience 
  • Experience managing large capital budgets ($100M+) 
  • Experience building PMOs and delivery frameworks 
  • Strong financial and technical acumen 
  • Experience with enterprise tools (Smartsheet, SAP, etc.)
