Job Description Summary
We have an opening for a Business Development Manager, Emerging Companies & Venture Capital.
The Business Development Manager supports the business development and marketing efforts for the Emerging Companies & Venture Capital ("EC/VC") practice and works with partners and business development team members to track EC/VC developments and fundraises, spearhead participation in industry-leading events and create and execute strategic profile-raising activities.
Job Description
In this capacity, the Business Development Manager, Emerging Companies & Venture Capital will:
  • Develop and execute business development and marketing plans; collaborate with partners, the business development, marketing and communications teams, as well as other internal stakeholders;
  • Daily track emerging-company fundraises and surface firm-wide connections to such companies as well as coordinate outreach;
  • Coordinate with the Securities and Capital Markets group to track pipeline of IPO candidates;
  • Coordinate with the Mergers & Acquisitions group to identify likely acquisition targets;
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders to draft and produce high-quality new business pitches and proposals;
  • Collaborate with the global business development team on the identification and pursuit of cross-selling initiatives;
  • Develop and maintain marketing materials, including practice overviews, web content, experience and awards/recognition;
  • Evaluate, execute, and manage sponsorship opportunities and partnerships, including post-event follow up, ensuring the firm capitalizes on all benefits to maximize ROI;
  • Coordinate and prepare submissions for relevant practice awards and recognition;
  • Develop and oversee client events, webinars / seminars and conferences;
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams on relevant media relations and digital-marketing initiatives;
  • Contribute to department-wide efforts to improve business development processes and functions; and
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Proficiencies:
  • Understanding of emerging companies and/or venture capital landscape;
  • Knowledge of technologies, developments, trends and literature related to legal and professional services marketing fields;
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite; knowledge of legal-marketing technology, such as InTapp DealCloud and Foundation is a plus;
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills, including attention to detail and proofreading;
  • Solid understanding of the needs and expectations of law firm operations and corporate legal clients in order to function at a strategic level;
  • Advanced knowledge of marketing principles, procedures, concepts and practical applications;
  • Fundamental knowledge of networking and relationship management; and
  • Proficiency in team building, management and leadership skills; and
  • Fundamental knowledge of legal concepts.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (required) with an emphasis in marketing, law or business (preferred);
  • Advanced degree (preferred);
  • At least 7 years of marketing professional experience (required);
  • At least 5 years of experience in a corporate law firm setting or relevant industry setting;
  • At least 3 years of management experience in a corporate law firm setting or relevant industry setting (preferred); and
  • Experience in relevant practice area(s)/geographies or industries (preferred).

The salary wage range for San Francisco that we expect to pay for this position is a minimum of $135,000 and a maximum of $180,000 annually. The actual pay wage may vary based on experience or other relevant factors.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
