Role Overview

The Director, Capital Projects & Construction leads all aspects of capital construction and facility development projects across Mitsubishi Power's Americas footprint. This role oversees the planning, design, and execution of large-scale construction, renovation, and infrastructure initiatives to ensure alignment with strategic, operational, and sustainability objectives. The Director provides executive-level leadership across the full project lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute capital project delivery strategies aligned with global real estate and business objectives.
  • Oversee a portfolio of major construction and renovation projects across offices, service centers, and manufacturing facilities.
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable project roadmaps, budgets, and schedules.
  • Establish governance frameworks and project controls to ensure transparency, risk management, and execution discipline.
  • Lead end-to-end capital project execution including site selection, design, procurement, permitting, construction, and commissioning.
  • Ensure all projects meet safety, quality, environmental, and sustainability standards.
  • Partner with EHS to maintain safe work environments and contractor compliance.
  • Manage vendor performance and oversee selection and negotiation of engineering, design, and construction contracts.
  • Conduct regular site reviews and provide executive-level reporting on project performance.
  • Develop and manage multi-million-dollar capital budgets and forecasts.
  • Implement cost control, value engineering, and performance measurement strategies.
  • Ensure alignment with financial planning, accounting, audit, and governance requirements.
  • Leverage technology and process improvements to optimize project delivery.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Real Estate, Operations, Engineering, Finance, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with Facilities, Sustainability, and IT teams to integrate new assets into long-term operations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of project managers and construction professionals.
  • Monitor regulatory requirements, permitting conditions, and industry practices impacting construction activities.
  • Perform audits and reviews to identify gaps, apply lessons learned, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Travel up to 20% as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10-15 years of progressive experience in capital project management, construction, or facilities development, including 5+ years in senior leadership roles.
  • Proven experience managing large, complex industrial or commercial projects exceeding $50M.
  • Strong knowledge of construction law, contract administration, permitting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional financial, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred.
  • Experience with energy, manufacturing, or industrial facility construction strongly desired.
  • Demonstrated competencies in strategic thinking, execution discipline, vendor management, safety leadership, sustainability, and executive communication.
